Hood bug guard?

If you never intend on using a car wash its fine. I got mine free(dealer tossed it in) and when I went to install, even with the mylar protectors those clips will eat through the tape and paint. Secured in my garage one can make it move easy and see what would happen. Took it off and tossed it. Got a weather tech (made by and same as AVS) and it sees a car wash at least once a week without issue

My 2020 TRD Off Road Premium is equipped with an OEM deflector.... installed at the port. I like it. It will protect the hood from rock chips.
As mentioned above the mounting clips rest on protective clear adhesive tabs stuck to the hood. I've not seen any movement of the tabs and have no concerns. Keep in mind truck only has 800 miles on it so my opinion may change! :yo:

Now I'm not sure if I go OEM, AVS, or nothing at all... Which ones DO NOT use tape? Has anyone had issues with the paint if you've ever had to take it off and replace it or if you got tired of it?

Just took mine off after 1 1/2 years. had two rock chips with it on and I think 4Runners look better without them.

As mentioned above OEM uses tape. But it’s a fairly thick material. It’s serves as paint protection.

A bug guard is an expensive way to trap salt and water along the front edge of your hood.

Yeah but it has the benefit of making a 4Runner look like paw-paw’s 2006 Silverado 1500 that he pulls the camper with on his way to a koa campground.
That piece shouldn’t be overlooked. Very important.
AVS is crap, or at least the one that I got was. It made contact with the top of my grill, and started rubbing paint off. Also made it slightly harder to shut the hood because of that. I didn't have this issue when I first installed it, but I guess it just flexed/deformed over period of time and weather.

Yes, I think we will just leave it be for now, due to possibility of future paint damage should we ever decide to remove it.
If rock chips bother you, have some PPF installed, every 5-10 year replace it as it wears. I installed PPF my black sports car, replaced it at the 5 year mark, paint looks like new.
