Hood bug guard?

Which one do you guys go with? We have a 2020 TRD Pro and thought the bug guard looks pretty good and protects the hood. We do not have any protective film on the vehicle at all, so I thought this might be a good alternative. Toughts and suggestions? Does anyone have a picture of one on an Army Green Pro?

I have an army green 4runner, I went with a full front end/headlight/fog wrap.

I have had the WeatherTech bug/rock plastic flush protector thing before on a 2017 sedan. To me it was 100% junk. They just get all scratched up over time with washes and they do nothing for rocks except where the item sits of course. That’s my two cents in regards to a sedan with one. I found it was a waste of money as my hood was covered in chips because rocks just go wherever they want.

Now I know a guy on Instagram REPT4RPRO has one installed on his.

Hope this helps some, I’ve never used one on an SUV hood tho which could have a slightly different angled hood but I would expect similar results.

Yeah, I wasn't sure about the film wraps and declined them since this thing doesn't really do highway driving, and I've heard the wraps need to be replaced every so many years. My wife, who is the primary driver thought it looked cool when she saw one, and I figured maybe an added benefit of some level of protection, but maybe not. This thing will not see a touch wash either.
 
Yes I only hand wash mine as well. But I interstate drive to work and back 15 miles each way so it’s worth it to me the wrap

It is not Army Green but this is one on my 2020 SR5. Super easy to install. Had one for 2 years on my 2017 Tacoma and it worked well. Have not had this on a trip yet

That’s different than the WeatherTech one. The WeatherTech one is a flush mount doesn’t rise up like that.

I screenshot the two different types I’ve seen on Instagram.

I have the AVS, and I actually kind of like the way it looks. Keeps rock chips off the front edge of hood. May deflect a bug or two. Not super functional really.
 
I would just have someone do a clear wrap to the front of your hood if you're worried about it. IMO the bug guard thing is ridiculously ugly.
 
I have the avs one. The tallest one they make. I like the look and figured the taller the better. I am not sure how effective it is but I figured it’s better than nothing.

Agree. And I question the plastic guard’s effectiveness. Had one on a previous car and saw no difference between my car that had it and my wife’s which did not.

My girlfriend had one of the bug guards on her Tacoma for who knows how long. I didn't install it and it was on her truck before I met her but even with the protective tape/vinyl the screw clamps can still rub the paint. I took it off this past winter because I hated how it looked and it actually damaged the paint where it is clamped down. So there's that too.
 
It took me awhile to be onboard with getting one since I always thought they looked tacky but I really like the AVS one. I have the clear bra on the hood too so I don’t have to worry about it messing up the paint. I got two rock chips my first week owning my 4R and wanted to cover it up. May not be everybody’s cup of tea but I’m a fan.

Do you know what brand/part number for the one on the army green ?
 
We have the AVS one on our 2013. It has held up well and was easy to install. Looks like the non flush ones posted. Our 2000 Tundra came with one. I don't know what brand it is; but it too has held up well, however, it was installed with epoxy - so it's not coming off!

I have the protective film but added the bug guard as an extra measure since i live in the south and we have love bugs here. If you're not familiar with them imagine an insect made out of electrical tape and superglue.... but i digress.

I went with the standard toyota one on both of my 4Rs. I like the slight offset from the hood, and and i like the angry-ish look it provides.
