That's a freakin' joke right. There are light bulbs that can be replaced for like $6 a piece. And it's pretty easy to remove the assembly. Just open the ash tray and pull out the fan and display units.

No problem. Did you happen to get the bulbs at the dealership or did you get them somewhere else? Reason I ask is I have to do it myself but havent gotten around to it.
Just wondering what the part # is for bulb on the fan/temp/time display unit?

I just ordered them from the dealer, $5 a bulb, part #: 9001009017.

I hope you didn't order them from the same dealer who quoted $1200 to replace them... they don't deserve a cent for those shenanigans!

Actually, I went back to the same service tech, took apart my dash in front of him and pointed to the LIGHTBULB and said I need this part. He apologized and then I ordered from them, although the parts manager was convinced that replacing the bulb wouldn't work. The sad part is that I purchased my 4runner from this dealer and had a good experience, however, I will avoid Centennial toyota for my next 4runner.
