Another high idle on 22re question...
I have a fairly new issue ( past 6 months or so )...high idle.
Runs about 1300 rpm. At times will be around 1500, at other times it is around 1100 rpm.
It used to be I could tap the throttle and it would come down.
That does not work anymore.
I tried the cleaner at the IAC trick, no luck. Also ran Seafoam through the intake. No luck.
Vacuum hoses LOOK ok, but one can never tell...I'll try the carb cleaner trick this weekend to see if any leaks.
The throttle cable feels free. I even disconnected the cruise control cable to make sure it was not pulling un-intentionally.
New Denso plugs, wires ( last week ) Runs better, but still high idle.
Any other ideas ( yes, I read up on other posts )

I know you are down in Florida where it doesn't get very cold...but does the idle come down once the engine warms up to normal temp?

Nope. I can drive around all day and the idle never comes down below 1100.

If it is a steady, non fluctuating high idle then I have to think that your idle screw is out of adjustment. Might want to check to see if you get a TPS or AFM code.

to get a code, wouldn't the check engine light be on?
It is not on at this time.

Not always, only major faults will trip the check engine light without jumping the diagnostic terminals.

Ah, I didn't realize that.
I will jump them & check this weekend.
I'll also try to adjust the idle.
Is this the correct screw?

Nope, your idle adjustment screw is in a boss on the throttle body. I can't tell you exactly where from memory but it will be below that screw and on the other side of the TB. I'm thinking that it is not your problem though, if your temp sender is not working correctly your ECU thinks the engine is cold all the time so it is running on fast idle constantly. At least that is my thought at the moment...

In a "boss" ? What is a "boss" ???
My Wife says she is my Boss....but I doubt that has anything to do with my trucks idle....
As to the temp sending unit, is this it?
The idle problem slowly creeped up. Was not an issue before last summer.
I have not changed out the sending unit and it has not been properly connected for as long as I have owned it. ( see the other post about the sending unit )

Hehe, ok. What I think is going to help you the most is a Toyota Factory Service Manual. You can download what you need from here Toyota Tacoma/ 4Runner/ Tundra/ FJ Cruiser Factory Service Manual Page
It looks like you are going to need to test your sending unit per the FSM, it also has a troubleshooting section that will help you dial in where the problem lies if it is not at the sender.. It sounds like you have a multimeter and know how to use it, so now all you need are the resistance values for the sensor(s) and you are set.

A boss is a thicker place in a casting that is meant to be drilled and tapped, typically for a mounting point. The boss is your wife.

While your rig is idling (high), open your hood and press on the back (close to the fire wall) of the throttle linkage (the part on the throttle body that your throttle cable is attached to and is held back by the spring).
Does your idle go down to normal when you do this? If so your dashpot filter may be clogged or defective. If this doesn't help, then maybe the earlier advice is a better path to explore.
