Good find.
That spinning wheel on the ATRAC demo didn't look too much different than the amount of spin I'm accustomed to seeing in the 4Runner under similar conditions.

You may be right, but from my experience with both off-road, the FJ's A-TRAC is significantly more aggressive at actually stopping a spinning tire. The regular 4runner's ATRAC system more often than not just slows the spinning tires. I guess that this is why the FJ's system is ONLY 4-LO.

why did the video state that you can't operate the P/T 4wd on pavement? I think we all Do here, those of us with the SE V6 model---in the winter. Leave it on 4WD all winter long.

FJ part-time 4wd is different than the 4runner's system...it is very basic. It is the same system as that on the Tacoma 4wd. 4runner's system is far more advance. Chalk another point on the 4runner's side.

Morphius909, if you get the 6sp manual (IIRC) then you get the same Torsen t-case as the 4Runner. That would be sweet!

:bowdown:Ah... I see. Thanks! The formula seems so simple to make this a best seller. Offer the stick with the V6 T4R transfer case and a V6 or V8 in the T4R and FJC. You'd sell FJ's and the T4R's by the boatload...

This is why i always thought that the 4runner is a better buy than the FJ...more flexible powertrain (and more powertrain choices). And i was/am still quite excited about the '09 Trail Edition...a perfect combination of powertrain...V6 + "Multi-mode 4wd" + A-TRAC + rear locker = near ideal IMHO for the off-roader who uses the vehicle for daily driving.

Operating the part-time system is the same as having the center differential locked in your 4Runner. In the 4Runner, though, you can unlock it and still be in 4WD. Not so in the part-time system.
