Moving From WA to TX. Have Questions.

Hello all,

I am in the military and I may be moving to San Antonio and I have some questions you guys might be able to help me out with.


What is area like for offroad and overlanding? Is it easy to find your self outside of civilization? I am looking to get lost with my wife for a week in the wilderness during the time I am there.

I am gun owner. I have read up on the laws but I am wondering if there is an abundance of places to shoot out in the sticks? I am not a fan of paying to shoot my owns guns.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

EDIT: I've been inactive for a bit. Been kinda busy. Truck is getting winch bumper, winch and sliders as we speak.

Where are you getting stationed? Lackland? FT Sam? BAMC?

Theres buttloads of places to wheel around here, not in the city of course, but the outskirts, castroville, boerne, kirby, etc. Fellow gun owner here, I have in-laws that live out in the sticks and we shoot their often, on base you can shoot occasionally when they open the range up.

Lackland AFB, I've heard good things about it. I am not a city boy though. I like my small quiet towns. I will likely live outside of town.

I was also wondering about camping. Real camping, not the RV park across from 7/11. Any experience in that area?

Lackland is close to castroville, the medina river runs through it, there's some good camping down there, primitive camping (my style).

Also corpus is only 2+ hours away, and at mustang island and some other places you can drive on the beach and camp down there, they also have a military only section, you need ID and **** to get on. Not bad
 
Hey bro andrew and I welcome you to our side of town! I think you'll like Lackland, its a nice slow & relatively quiet base, im on/off it 24/7. When are you moving here? I am really interested in getting lost in the bushing for a few days. Like some expedition type stuff. Is that kind of thing pretty big down there?
 
^ Yessir. Make sure you come prepared, once you get outside of the city and the suburbs, its desolate. Especially out west. All the room you could ever want for wheeling.
