Just FYI, your vote DOES NOT count towards the election of the President. The electoral college is the actual voting body, and while they are usually consistent with the popular vote, 4 times in history there have been discrepancies with the electoral college voting in a manner inconsistent with the popular vote. Additionally, only something like 28 states have laws in place that mandate voting in accordance with the popular vote.

Yeah but if nobody voted then the electoral college would be able to decide for themselves with no direction from the people. So technically you are not voting for the president but realistically you are with very few exceptions.
What does your map look like?
I mostly agree with your projections, but I think Romney wins FL CO and NC but Obama still captures enough states to win, carrying OH, IA, WI, NV, NH and VA, winning the electoral college 294-235. Even if OH flips to Romney, Obama still wins 275-263 if he gets the other states.
Romney has a chance to win the overall popular vote but lose the electoral college vote, as happened in the 2000 Bush-Gore election.
I voted last week...so nice to have early voting here in TX.
Florida is far from "blood red." If it were, it would not be a "battleground" state. It is a purple state that by the next election will be blue. The last poll results from yesterday has Obama winning Ohio with Florida a toss up. We'll see what happens tonight -- if we are lucky and it does not get dragged out.
With email voting in NJ alone that would drag things out because those email votes need to be validated against paper ballots that people still need to mail/fax in (similar to the military rules). Unless there is a landslide either way, I would expect there to be some question on the true final outcome this year.
I would also not be surprised with a popular vote v.s. electoral vote difference in outcome either.
Should be an interesting evening.

There is a possibility that Romney could take Illinois!!! If I recall, Ill switched their electoral votes to track the national popular vote. With the vote being this close, Romney could take the national popular vote and thereby end up taking ILL. That would be hilarious, O's home state, which is owned by upstate Dems swinging Republican.

Illinois' electoral votes, like all other states, will be awarded to the candidate who wins the most votes in THEIR state (except for ME and NE which award one electoral vote to the winner of each congressional district). So Obama will likely pick up all 20 of Illinois' electoral votes. The voters' preference in Illinois will not be usurped by the votes of the entire nation.
What Illinois voted for, along with a few other states at this point, is approve the "National Popular Vote" bill, which would award the Presidency to the candidate who receives the most popular votes in the entire United States. It would effectively eliminate the electoral college. However, it is a constitutional amendment that must be passed by all 50 states so in all likelihood will never become a reality.

That must make me an independent, since I'm driving both a Toyota AND a Chevy with the same truck!
I would like to think of it as the Chevy is driving the Toyota. But, I would be willing to bet that the Chevy is just as much foreign as the Toyota. Feel free to find "Made in USA" stamped on the side of the block and prove me wrong
