The Humboldt / Lost Coast / surrounding areas thread

An update on my lift: It's still in a box. I think it's been 8 months since I got it. First, I was going to install it right after I got it. Woke up at 6AM, got the 4Runner on jackstands, got the wheels off and... couldn't get the inner-most nut of the strut top hats, and I was worried about...

The Humboldt / Lost Coast / surrounding areas thread

I've been having some major Taco envy lately. Everytime I go to Almquist and have to have 2 feet cut off the end of a sheet of plywood to fit it in the 4Runner, or drive back home with 8ft boards sticking up through the center console up to the dash, I really wish I had a Taco. I'm not normally...

    SPOTTED Thread

Terrible picture that doesn't do this thing justice, but people were looking at me weird so I only got one. Snorkel, winch, rear tire carrier, roof rack, the works.

That's one good looking fairlead. Is it just really close, or actually paint matched?

LT Load Range E Tire on 4Runner

I have E-rated tires. You can find pretty much two completely opposing pieces of advice about any tire-related subject on the internet, so good luck trying to come away confident in the information you get. First, the ride is stiffer than P-rated, or non-E-rated LT, since the sidewall is...

    4th Gen Suspension Options/FAQ

What's the best way to get the most "inner" nut off for the front strut top hats? Should I just bend the inner fender enough that I can actually get a socket onto it from the engine bay? Seems like I'd have to bend it a ton.

Is this a good deal on a 2006?

Well, the one thing I'd wonder about is why they're saying it's a 2006 when it clearly has an 03-05 body style.

    running board power supply

I don't really think there's much advantage to doing that anyway. If you're already wiring up a switch and finding a way to splice it into the existing wire, how much more work is it really to just run a new wire from a different source out the same hole that the running board wires go out of?

Dobinsons Suspension - 4th Gen Options

My setup came in two days ago. Teal on black looks really nice. Should be installing next Sunday.

My black friday purchase showed up today. Definitely a weekend project, although not sure which weekend it will actually be. This time of year isn't exactly wide open with free time.

    4th Gen Suspension Options/FAQ

Getting ready to install my lift this week. For people who have done it themselves, where did you put jackstands for the rear? My plan is to use a bottle jack to push the rear axle away from the frame enough to fit the taller spring in. If I put the jackstands on the axle, then I'll be pushing...

    Easy Weekend Mods

If you plan to work on your own suspension, an impact wrench would be pretty important. Even just lug nuts are kind of pushing it for an impact driver. Most of the time it will work, but sometimes it just... won't. Especially since you have to use 1/4" hex adapters. Since you already have Ryobi...

    Easy Weekend Mods

Yeah, that's an impact driver, not an impact wrench. Not quite the same thing. I mean, functionally they are similar, but 1600 lb-in is not very much for breaking loose rusted nuts. Can't say how much more you'd need, but a typical full size impact wrench is in the 400-1000 lb-ft range. And some...

    Easy Weekend Mods

Definitely just go for more power before you go doing destructive things. Mine wouldn't budge with an impact driver, but that's a lot different than an impact wrench. I didn't have one at the time so I had to use a friends. Even a cheap harbor freight air impact took them off in seconds. One...

Doug Thorley Headers start up, rev, and drive by videos!

I figured the comment about smoke was about the third video you posted, which is the exact same video as the one in that facebook post.
