After working for Toyota, I can tell you that the time between model redesigns will continue to shorten. I would expect the 4Runner to have a facelift every 3 years and a new model redesign every 6 or so. A higher unit sales model like the Camry could see those times reduced significantly.

My 2001 is having the same problems. The dealer isn't of any help- I think they just put a poorly designed roof rack on the 3rd gens. Does your truck stay outside in the sun? I am considering removing the rack, strippping or sanding the plastic, and repainting with Krylon Fusion Plastic paint...
