rubbed area on leather steering wheel

My 2001 has a rubbed area on the leather stearing wheel where I normally put my hands. Has anyone else experienced this? I have used every cleaner and conditioner to try and restore the feel and texture of the leather. It feels like a layer of the leather has rubbed off and it's no longer smooth.

Has anyone else found a solution or product to restore the leather?

Easy to replace. Get some leather and leather tread. Cut tread and remove existing wrap. Lay it out as flat as you can, draw the outline (account for the stretch that leather will take when wraped). Use your wifes or mothers sewing machine to connect 3 parts into ring. Use hole puncher for tread holes. And wrap it around tight with leather tread, or use vinyl tread, which is easier to find. Or skip all of above and take it to upholstery shop. Good Luck

I'm experiencing this on mine...I know this is an old thread, but anybody have a good solution, other than completely replace the leather?

I don't think there's a way to restore rubbed or faded leather. Either replace or cover it up with steering wheel covers.

You guys got it lucky, mine has rubbed down to the rubberish like padding under the leather so my only option is an upholstery shop
