So I'm pulling an engine and swapping in one with low miles. The manual starts by saying to pull the tranny first. Is this really the way to go? What tips can you give me on this one.

I wouldn't plan on buying one with 200k on it and expect it to go forever. I got my 3rd gen with 115k and blew a head gasket at 225k or so. Still 100k worth of driving it wherever I wanted was worth something right?

So how hard is it to change the valve seals, and how do you shim the valves correctly.

4Runner is just over 250k miles. I had a head gasket fail about 25k ago and had a shop do it as I had no time. It doesn't seem like they knew much more that me about doing it well.?

This is about the exact way mine started acting at about 225k and it was a leaking head gasket.

Where do you find these prices? Junk Yard? I have been considering my options as my T4R has become more of an everything rig and being more offroadable would be nice.

I know what your saying and I agree it wasn't done right. Thing is, I moved 1200 miles from where I had the work done. When I pulled the plugs the boots were stuck to the plug ( no di-grease), and the plug in #3 was loose. I can't expect to get anything from the shop.
