Brembo rotors... but what pads? Akebono or Brembo

2002 SR5 auto 4x4 15" 250K About to pull the trigger on some Brembo rotors (not slotted) (297/11.69). Have seen posts that Ake' pads have been picked for Brembo rotors. Why is that a fav rather than going also with Brembo for pads? (FYI, 4Wheel Parts shop does Power Stop Z23 all the time...

    Upgrade to a 2006 V8 Sport?

2006, Sport, V8, auto 4x4, 200K for $10K Short version : What's the reputation of the 2006 Sport V8 when at 200K miles? I like the Sport V8 2006 (and up) because... - Better 4.7 than early 4G's - Towing of 7t rather than just 5t. - Sport has towing suspension, hitch and wired for 7-way. I...

Rear Springs on 2002 for towing

I can find plenty of rear springs for my 3G 2002 SR5 that are OEM "constant", but don't I want "variable" (progressive?) for towing?

Power Stop brakes; Z23 (premium/sport) VS. Z36 (truck & tow)

I called Power Stop about their upgrade brakes. They said the Z23 and Z36 are essentially the same (but not identical) pad material, both have a upgrade ceramic carbon compound. The Z36 (truck and tow) are for high heat and have different shims (steel for high heat dissipation) so they are...

Brakes; Tundra upgrade or 3G Ltd upgrade on SR5?

I called Power Stop. They said the Z23 and Z36 are essentially the same (but not identical) pad material, both ceramic compound. The Z36 (truck and tow) are for high heat and have different shims (steel for high heat dissipation) so they are heavy loads, frequent heavy braking, or oversize...

What brake pads if not OEM or TBU?

2002 SR5 4wd 255K 15" wheels. I now have 90K on the last set of d&s rotors and pads that were an ebay 'upgrade' kit my mechanic suggested. They were very OK but nothing extra strong. Now my oil change guy said brakes have about one more oil change left before need brakes. Presume the D&S...

Brakes; Tundra upgrade or 3G Ltd upgrade on SR5?

Thanks for info. Just to finish out the brake pad thoughts... Price of just the pads is virtually the same. Will call mfgr again to confirm which model has more stopping power / friction rating. Also to find out if rotors in the kits are different somehow. Z36 Truck/Tow = Carbon...

Brakes; Tundra upgrade or 3G Ltd upgrade on SR5?

Maybe just upgrade to Tow or Sport pads? So the Z36's are the "Truck & Tow" version. I called Powerstop and they said these are for weight and related heat. And the Z23's are the "Sport" version. Powerstop told me these have higher friction rating and will have more grip response. So are...

Brakes; Tundra upgrade or 3G Ltd upgrade on SR5?

Thanks for info. FYI; The only people who do much braking in the Colo mts are vacationers and 16 year old's. Everybody else uses engine speed & gears. (Tip: never pass and stay in front of a car who's brakes lights are constantly on.) Not married to TBU at all so 'unpopular' is fine with...

Billies 4600's are shot. Go with KYB Max or Gas-a-just

Wallet told me to just call Billies and everything would be just fine. So I did and Billies told me warranty is only for actual defects or failure like loss of oil/gass; do not cover normal use over time (8 years & 90K = SOL). Stupid wallet.

Mistake? Yes. 1st mistake? Not by a mile.

Brakes; Tundra upgrade or 3G Ltd upgrade on SR5?

Well this is just one example why I am asking the pros. Introducing a new big component into an otherwise balanced and stable system could become an unwanted part-time career. So if I put the brakes (pun) on my mechanic suggestion for Tundra upgrade and go with where I started with him which...

Well my wallet told me that shocks that cost twice as much should last twice as long. Stupid wallet.
