Typo on my part. I meant grinding the wheels, not the calipers

Grinding the calipers Thanks everyone for the input. I'm going with the 231mm mainly because of towing

    Brake Upgrade Recommendations

I found a shop that will do it. They said they would do the 231mm for less then $40 more then the 199's. Will the 231mm calipers fit the split 3 wheels after they are ground down or do you need to run spacers with the split 3's regardless?

Thanks everyone for the responses. Right now I'm trying to find a local shop to do the upgrade but having a difficult time. If I can't find one that will do it I'll do it myself.

    Brake Upgrade Recommendations

Thanks for the clarification. I think I'm going to go with the 199mm's. I know the 199's have 13WE on the caliper. Is there a specific part numbers I can tell the shop? Or just tell them calipers, pads, and rotors off a 2001 Tundra? Thanks everyone for there input

    Brake Upgrade Recommendations

I have a 98 Limited with the factory 6 spoke 16" wheels. I am going to have a trusted, local repair shop replace the brakes and will see if they will do the upgrade for me. I am trying to decide between the 199mm vs 231mm. I use it as my daily driver as well as towing a 5x8 enclosed trailer with...

    1998 Limited 4x4 3.4L Auto 85K Service

What are the recommend services to perform at 85K for a 1998 Limited 4x4 3.4L Auto? This is my first 4runner and I purchased it used in April with 79,000. Shortly after purchasing it (<1000 miles) I replaced the radiator, coolant, had the lower ball joints checked, and changed trans fluid and...

    Purchasing 1st 4runner: Towing

Test drove it today and ended up buying it. Pulled my 5x8 enclosed trailer with 2 dirt bikes with ease. Did a mixture of city driving and interstate driving on the test drive with no issues. Had a very smooth ride when doing 70-80 mph on the highway with no swaying or tugging. I plan on doing...

    Purchasing 1st 4runner: Towing

Thanks again for the reply's. The dealer said that I can bring my trailer and take it for a test drive with it tomorrow. I will let you know how it pulls my trailer. If I do purchase it I will defiantly do trans cooler and lower ball joints. Darren

    Purchasing 1st 4runner: Towing

Thanks for the reply's. The 1998 that I am looking at has 78,000 and has been regularly maintained by a Toyota dealer. Should I still consider replacing the radiator and lower ball joints with that mileage? I will defiantly get a transmission cooler for it. Millerad1651, how much does your boat...

    Purchasing 1st 4runner: Towing

I am looking at purchasing a 1998 4runner limited 4x4 with the 3.4L and auto transmission. My main concern after doing some research is towing. I have a 5x8 v-nose single axle trailer without trailer brakes that I use to haul 2 dirt bikes and gear. All loaded up I estimate it ways between...
