1998 Limited 4x4 3.4L Auto 85K Service

What are the recommend services to perform at 85K for a 1998 Limited 4x4 3.4L Auto? This is my first 4runner and I purchased it used in April with 79,000. Shortly after purchasing it (<1000 miles) I replaced the radiator, coolant, had the lower ball joints checked, and changed trans fluid and added an HD trans cooler. I tow a 5x8 enclosed trailer 2-3 times a month between 300-1000 miles. Also, does anyone have a list of scheduled maintenance intervals?

Since we are visually needy folks on this board::worthless:

The knowing of the last time the timing belt/water pump was replaced, if ever, would be tops on my wish list. Otherwise, take some time to look through the list of known problems we run into as well as DIY threads at the beginning of this forum board.

Looks like you have a good start on the maintenance. The guide at 85k is nothing big. 90k is the first big service from the Manufacture.

85k-
Oil and Filter
Inspect Following-
Ball Joints, and Dust Covers
Inspect Breaks
Air Filter
Nuts and Bolts on Chassis
Steering Linkage
Rotate Tires
Lube all shafts and re-torque bolts

90k-
Air Filter
Oil
Plugs and Wires
Timing Belt
Repack front wheel bearings
Lube all shafts
re-torque drive shaft flange bolts
And inspect everything above at 85k Maint.
including
Flue tank cap gasket
Limited Slip Diffs
Steering Box
Trans Case
Trans Fluid and oil

Depends on usage and quality of fluids. You can go 50k on good synthetics and Toyota coolant for all those fluids if mainly highway use. If running dino fluids/green coolant or abusive off-road use with risk of mud/sand contamination, think 30k max. (If auto tranny, ask somebody else, I don't do slush boxes.)

List above should not have front wheel bearings; 3G 4Runners are 'lifetime.'

Key question is do you have maintenance history? If not, I would do everything on the 90k list as soon as you can because you are due on time if not mileage if they haven't been done. All fluids, filters, plugs, wires, timing belt, idlers, water pump, thermostat, major hoses, aux. belts should be done unless you have recent history. Then check brakes, shocks, rack bushings, tie rod ends, sway bar bushings and ends and do what is needed.

Don't grease the front bearings. TOYOTA bearings runs at least 250 K miles. My car has 230K and 4runner has 190K and never been greased.
