My 99 4Runner with the 4 cyl engine started showing the check engine light. Had someone hook up a diagnosis tool and he retrieved a code that indicated the EGR Valve is the culprit. He said the valve probably just needs cleaning or possibly replacing. Is this a difficult job or is it...

I did...but the guy said he couldn't get codes for a 1999 model. Maybe I should try another Auto Zone? The check engine light is flashing, yes.
