Well decided to look a little closer at this swap today. Measured driveshaft lengths off of my 1997 SR5 and they are the same as my 98 limited so I did the swap. Everything went well and she is back on the ground with functioning 4wd again. The j-shift TC was exactly the same dimensionally...

Well at this point Im not sure Im going to do a swap or just pick up another limited T-case. I would prefer to go to the j-shift because I have it but if it is going to cause problems or if Im going to have to change a bunch of parts I wont do it. Thoughts please

My front diff has a vacuum actuator yes. I don't think my limited is the AWD version as the button shifter only moves straight back and forth. The made so many variants it is crazy

Okay folks here is my issure. I have a 1998 limited and the t-case actuator has died. I tested it with 12 v power and won't shift in and out of 4wd reliably. I have a spare j-shift laying around out of a 97 sr5. Physically they look the same minus the electronic actuator...I don't mind...

Well folks it looks like Im going to just cut my losses and go with a salvage tranny. Found one about 70 miles away with 136k on it for $300 with a 90 day warranty. Thank you all for the opinions. It is greatly appreciated.

Keep em coming guys I appreciate it. I am a huge Toyota fan and love all my trucks. If I do change trannies I will do myself as I have done swaps before. I would love to buy a reman tranny but funds dont permit.

Here is what I got. 98 4runner 190k miles. Suffered pink milk shake. Caught relatively early. Replaced radiator and flushed transmission 3 times with new fluid. Tranny has been shifting fine until the other day. Threw P0753 code and went into safe mode. I pulled tranny pan and checked seloniod...

Can anyone tell me if a transmission out of an 02 Tundra 4.7 will work in a 1998 4runner? Both are 340F but I was wondering if the same.

Thank you for the replies., I have tried tapping on the seloniod and turning the button on and off. Shifting into Drive and reverse. Trying it in Park all to no avail. It is not a big deal because the truck is in hi so I can drive it, it just bugs me when thigs dont work. Does anyone know...
