Transfer case not shifting

Okay folks here we go, My first post! I have an 06 Sport V8. I traded my 06 Tundra for it last May. My runner has 53000 miles and I am the second owner.

My issue is, I just got it out of storage, ( I have a 1998 runner that I drive in the NE Ohio winters.) and I went to cycle the transfer case from 4hi to 4lo as I do every month when it is out. As i'm sure you can figure it is not shifting out of 4hi.

Before everyone yells at me for not using the search feature please understand that I have and fully understand that my problem is most likely the transfer case solenoid sticking.

My question is? Has anyone tried to remove the solenoid and free it up? I am very loyal to Toyota as I have been driving them for years but also want to fix this myself if possible.

Thank you all in advance for any help.

Its my understanding that the way the solenoid fits into the transfer case, it cant just be removed, its retained somehow from inside thw tcase. People have had pretty good luck lightly tapping on the solenoid to get it to free up.

I had this problem but I found out when i was stuck
Try and turn the wheels back and forth plus try and let the truck roll a slight bit and keep trying the button
It worked for me
Also can't hurt before you dig into replacing it
Just my .

Thank you for the replies., I have tried tapping on the seloniod and turning the button on and off. Shifting into Drive and reverse. Trying it in Park all to no avail.

It is not a big deal because the truck is in hi so I can drive it, it just bugs me when thigs dont work.

Does anyone know where I could get a exploded view of the transfer case to see what is going on in there?

I know I'm asking alot but if I can do this myself I will tackle it as it seems to be somewhat of a common problem.

Thanks, Dave
