    2014 4Runner

The grills on the SR5 and TE are huge... Lots of plastic. I have a 2011 TE - an errant golf ball hit my grill and punched a hole in it. I bought a billet grill to cover the hole, but I think the new large surface area of grille space will not last if gets hit by rocks and other road hazards...

    2012 sr5 door panel removal

Make sure to pull the weather stripping off the panels before you try to re-attach them to the door... It will save you lots of gray hair and frustration :drummer:

What did you do to/in your 5th Gen today?!

I had an Alpine amp installed to power the JL C2 speakers I put in the front/rear doors. Huge difference! I put the speakers in myself, but found an installer for the amp - he does audio system upgrades for the local Toyota dealership. I was glad I did after watching him do the install...

    2014 4Runner

Personally, I think there is good and bad with this re-fresh. As always, people on this Forum (and others) will figure out ways to personalize and make cool improvements to the 2014 4Runner. It is a foregone conclusion that people will alter the front grill, black out the side view...

    Rear door panel installation tip

Grant -- thanks for posting this. I front doors are easy compared to the rears... I almost committed Hari-kari trying to get the rear panels back on, but found this thread.... I put some 6.5 JLs in the doors. Next is the amp...

Aftermarket 6.5 Inch Speaker Adapters (rear doors)

I think I am going to try the Scosche SAT6... If this does not work, I will bite the bullet and try to build them... Low risk at $10 On Tacotunes, I do have a set of their adapters for the front... I bought them 3 years ago for an FJ that I traded in... They are nice, but expensive. With...

Aftermarket 6.5 Inch Speaker Adapters (rear doors)

I have searched high and low on T4R.Org to see if anyone has found some good aftermarket speaker adapters (6.5 in) for the rear doors on a 5th Gen TE. Yes, I can try to make my own out of MDF, but admittedly I am no 'Norm' from 'This Old House'. The easiest route would be to just buy them...

Amp advice for JL audio speakers

Thanks CO..... what size speaker did you put in the rear door - 6.5 or 5 in? Also, did you change out the liftgate speakers? People have stated that this is a waste of $ and just change out the rear doors...

Amp advice for JL audio speakers

Thanks so much for the advice.... I agree that Crutchfield is probably wrong -- this does make sense... The Arc looks nice, but I think I am going to stick JL...

What did you do to/in your 5th Gen today?!

I had some 6x9 Bostons that I moved from an FJ that I traded in for my 4R 2 yrs ago... The swap was really easy, but I was glad that I had the Tacotunes speaker brackets -- the JLs have a huge magnet -- without the thick bracket I think the speaker might have created an issue with the window.

Amp advice for JL audio speakers

That's what I was thinking as well... I was looking at the JL XD400/4. I was told by Crutchfield that I would not need to amp the 3.5 in Bostons in the dash, so I believe I could drive the JLs in front door and add some JLs to the liftgate. I have no room for a sub.

Door panel Removal... where is the screw behind the door?

Very nice... did you do the install on the amp? That might be over my head, but might be looking for a reputable install place in Denver.... On the doors, I did pull them and swap the speakers... First one took 30mins, the second 15 mins... You live and you learn... And yes, the JL's I put...

Door panel Removal... where is the screw behind the door?

Grant - did you install a new set of speakers? If yes, what did you put in? I am going to try to put some JL 6x9s in this week -- swapping out some Bostons that will be moved to our other car... The Bostons sound really good, so I am not sure I am wasting my time :)
