I hauled one of those enclosed cargo uhaul trailers with about 6,000 lbs of steel in it from central Indiana to western Pennsylvania last winter. The terrain is not mountainous but I had zero problems with the truck temps. '06 V8 Limited.

I took my '06, 110k mile 4runner on a roadtrip from Pennsylvania to Georgia last fall. The speedometer died in Georgia. Had to drive home with no speedo. Took it to the shop when I got home and they said speedo was working fine when they tested. Problem has not reoccurred since.

That's how mine works. Just a tap. Maybe it's a 03-05 thing that was changed with the '06 update. OP, the diff lock freezing up is a fairly common problem on older 4runners where it never gets used. My '06 was frozen when I bought it and took a good 6 months of randomly trying to engage it...

If you guys go again and have room for another, I'd love to tag along. I live in western PA and this about half as far away as AoAA and Rausch Creek. The 3-4 hour drive home after a day of wheeling is a bit of a drag. It looks like they're only open to the public one weekend per month though?
