Keep trying. Ours wouldn't go into 4lo for the longest time. Just try switching it each time you drive it and eventually it should start working. Here's how I "exercise" the 4lo: Normal switch to 4hi while driving. Stop truck and switch to neutral. While brake on switch to 4lo. *light blinks...

Is it throwing any new codes? Could be the o2 sensor finally going bad. On my car a faulty o2 sensor pretty much shuts down the entire car, goes into a limp mode. Not sure if the 4runner would do that also. Reseting fixing it temporarily sounds like that could be the issue; computer fixes the...
