What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Body Mount Bushings Bought Toyota bushings from Amayama last January. Cost was about $300. Finally made the time to swap them. No body lift, just bushings so I didn't have to worry about the bumper or rag joint. And my '96 doesn't have the center mount by the b-pillar. 14 bushings total...

    Body mounts: too much weight?

Is that why PartSouq and Amayama aren't linking these part numbers for my '96? Japan-Parts specifically shows these 2 bushings as "not applicable" for my VIN.

What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Cup Holder Rejuvenation I was reading old forum posts, as one does when bored, and came across a 9+ year-old post about the front cup holder where I learned that it was just a busted pin behind my cup holder woes and it was repairable. Now I can hold a can in both sides again. Thanks habanero...

What is this and how do I fix it?

Not for nothing, Jerod but the first big job I did on my own 4Runner was LBJs and between a jack, jack stands, front-end service kit, and impact wrench, I spent well over $400. I was willing to learn and tackle countless jobs after that using those tools, so they've more than paid for themselves...

What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Retapped Skid Plate Bolt Holes I tapped one to 3/8 a year ago because it was stripped. The 3/8 head was 14 mm while the M8 heads were 10mm. That caused me minor grief more than once. I recently noticed a 2nd bolt hole was nearly stripped so I decided to do them all (except front-center...

I added a switch to mine since the antenna was always up with the new head unit. I replaced an Alpine from p.o. with an Alpine and I used the blue/white wire. Your setup may be different. Use the "secret" Google search for 'power antenna switch' and you'll find tons of good info.

Thanks, Leon. I wonder why they only show the upper one in the parts diagram. I've been trying to order this part online for the past 50 minutes. Different browsers, logged in, logged out, incognito, different cards, different swear words. Guess I'll have to show up and order in-person...

The 3rd Gen All Questions Allowed Thread

Found this in the driveway after replacing my starter contacts. I thought it was the part shown below, but I just went out to check and it's still there. As far as I can tell there's only supposed to be 1 on the starter and I can't find the part being used elsewhere. Any thoughts...

What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Starter Contacts, Plunger, and Sway Bar Bushings. I'd ordered a Victory kit from Amazon last June but when I opened it last week, all I found was what looked like used parts - and parts that didn't even come with the kit. Now having actually done the job, I can confirm that's exactly what it...

What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

It's garbage. I have tons of links saved from my local dealership for parts I might need and they're all broken. I sure hope they add some redirection. I don't like change. EDIT: Also, I can't access it when using a VPN. That's going to be a headache.

I mainly use PartSouq but Japan Parts also works. That link uses my VIN. I don't know how to get proficient with PartSouq - I was looking for the clip on the cover for the rear heater lines and eventually found it under Electrical.

That's the beauty of buying a used 4Runner. I get to change all the things just so I know they've been done.

What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

In case anyone's hesitant about posting anything after Leon's masterpiece, I'll take the hit. Thanks for posting some before pics but that bar's raised too high for me! At least I can keep mine running with a new heater control valve and associated hoses and clamps. I must have...

What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Replaced Aft O2 Sensor Doing something's better than nothing. Trying to figure out why heat shield #2 there makes so much racket. Nuts are tight. Is it possible it's just fatigued and needs to be replaced? Shield #1 in front of that one doesn't seem to rattle.

The important thing is that once again, I should've gone with my gut and ordered the right parts to begin with. I'll blame it on youth - hell, I was younger when I ordered those parts last June, right? I ordered from PartSouq since Amayama couldn't get my order here before my trip next month...
