    Strange starting problem

Just to bring this thread to a conclusion. The dealer installed a new computer, and voila, weird starting problem problem solved. It returned to starting normally. No more "start, then shut down". Life is good again (except for my bank account!).

    Strange starting problem

Thanks for the comments. Ignition switch - yep, we've talked about that one a lot. The shop is quite sure the ignition switch is fine. The ignition switch has been my thought as well. Gas cap? I can check. I always put it on firmly so it would be a surprise to cause the truck to not start? But...

    Strange starting problem

More like "auto stop". When I turn the key, it tries to start the vehicle for about a quarter of a second, then stops. But, if first the computer is manually commanded (via the OBD port) to turn on the start relay, then it will start.

    2005 4runner sr5 double din question

Just a warning. When I did my aftermarket headunit install, I found there wasn't a ton of room behind there for wiring adapters and so forth. You can make your life easier if you find a shallower headunit that otherwise meets your needs.

    Strange starting problem

I'm having a strange starting problem with my 2005 V6, and I'm wondering if anyone has ever seen this before. The basic symptom is: Turn the key, the truck starts to turn over for maybe a quarter of a second, then stops. Stops trying to turn over, just stops. New battery, fully charged, etc. I...

Head units: what are you running?

I've recently installed an Android HU into my 2005 4Runner that had the JBL factory stereo system in it. The HU I selected was the Pumpkin AE0273B. I'm planning on doing a writeup with some photos, but for now it's enough to say I'm quite impressed with the whole affair. Aside from AM/FM...

Need 17" wheels with more offset - suggestions please

Thanks again for the help. I did manage to buy the 2015 4Runner wheels mentioned earlier. They look pretty much new. Cost was CAD$450 (approx US$350) for 4. The previous owner decided to replace his original wheels with black wheels (which looked good on his vehicle). I measured the offset on...

Need 17" wheels with more offset - suggestions please

Thanks to everyone for their help. Particularly for the offset numbers - this gives me a great idea of what I can expect. I've found a nice looking set of 17" wheels from a 2015 4Runner on craigslist. See the photo. Hopefully they're still available. We'll see what happens.

Need 17" wheels with more offset - suggestions please

Hi all, Apologies if this has been asked 100 times already; I did look. :bounce: I have a 2005 SR5 Sport, so it has the 17" wheels. The stock toyota alloy rims. I've put on 265/70R17 BF Goodrich All Terrain T/A tires. My problem is I cannot install a decent set of snow chains. On the front...

So, did the spacer lift save me?

That sounds like good advice - thanks.

So, did the spacer lift save me?

Last weekend we were driving down an active logging gravel road in our '05 runner. We were stuck behind a mega logging truck hauling about a zillion trees and taking up pretty much the entire road. The way these monster trucks work is, they plod along the flats & downhills, and you're stuck...

    Costco trying to install Revo's

Yes, you're probably right. Certainly explains why they wouldn't let me look at the "rubbing". The Revos were indeed special ordered; only took a week to get them in though.

    Costco trying to install Revo's

I had to laugh this weekend. Like many others on this board, it turned out that Costco had the lowest prices I could find on 265/70R17 Bridgestone Revo's. However, they also said their tire shop could install them. I pointed out that the Revo's were slightly taller than the stock Dunflops...

    New JBL in-dash 6cd NEEDED

I know this doesn't exactly answer your question, but as an alternative to the 6-CD changer, you might want to keep your JBL single-CD and install the Denison iPod adaptor instead. You get a lot more than 6 CDs worth of music on an iPod; it's like having a 100-CD changer in your truck. Also...

    Advice on options

I presume the bug guard is what's also known as a hood deflector. I have one - I like it. My previous truck did not have one, and the front edge of the hood ended up with lots of little stone chips & the like. So we put a hood deflector on the new truck.
