just had to try this. i'm sure it's illegal, but i think i was still a little under the tow capacity.

    electronic doodads

just got back from a weekend of exploring with the family, mostly in the george washington national forest (GWNF). came across quite a few jeepers that were out (and one unimog), very few other 4x4s. one of the trails that we did was by crab tree falls. this trail is probably the max that a...

Outer Banks, NC - End of March

driving on the beach is fine, doing donuts in view of the cops isn't. trd_4runnin - you will be fine exploring by yourself. drop your tire pressure to 15 psi and you will have no worries. there is a sand dune that you can drive onto just north of corolla (probably illegal, but pleading...

2nd safest location for child seat?

back in 2004, when i went to get my first childseat installed, i was told that rear facing child seats should not be placed in the middle seat when the middle seat has a hidden arm rest - the reason being that in a front end collision the stow-away armrest can slam down and break a baby's legs...

    instrumentation light?

does the fan speed setting have an insturmentation light? when all the other instrument lights are lit at night, i cannot see the fan dial, i can only see the setting that it is on (low, medium, etc.). if the fan is off, then there is no light at all for the dial.

    Air lift 1000s and towing

is the compressor mandatory for the airlift 1000? did you do the install yourself? how much did it cost? does it affect the ride when you are not towing?

From 3rd gen to 4th gen...will it tow a horse trailer?

the 4runner could tow it, but there are certainly other vehicles out there that are better equiped for this type of towing. i guess the determining factors for me would be how often i tow the horses and how far. if it is just an occasionaly tow within a couple hours drive, i'd certainly be...

to lift, or not to lift . . .

Re: Re: to lift, or not to lift . . . is that $75 to get airbags installed, or to purchase them? this is certainly something that i would consider, has anyone done this install?

Looking to possibly move on from my 4Runner...

go with a taco. it is fun to own a pickup once in your life, this may be the time. i used to have one, then changed to an suv when the kids came. i now have a utility trailer to haul stuff, not too bad when you have the space to store it, and maybe something to consider down the road. imho...

    4runners aren't for 4wheeling!!!

make sure you lock the center diff (vsc off) otherwise there is a good chance you could get stuck (especially if you are at oregon inlet in the soft stuff). i had a '94 toy pickup and a '93 4runner that both did much much better in the sand than my '04. as much as it sucks, i would recommend...
