'94 V6 crank-no-start shortly after rebuild, need a little advice on ECT

Update: '94 V6 CNS issue resolved, bad gasoline kc15842, thank you for the reply! I apologize for not responding but I hadn't seen it until today. I had been on the complete wrong track fishing for an electrical problem - I guess I just couldn't make myself believe that I had a compression...

'94 V6 crank-no-start shortly after rebuild, need a little advice on ECT

So, I pulled the heads this past Monday(a great deal faster the second time, thank you very much :P). #1 intake was stuck fully open - I couldn't even rotate it, let alone slide it closed. I could overcome the valve spring pressure with my thumbs at each of the "good" valves, but #6 had crept...

'94 V6 crank-no-start shortly after rebuild, need a little advice on ECT

Thanks RonJR, you were on the right track, though I didn't want to think it could be true :I I came across many accounts of people with serious overfueling problems having cylinder washout cause zero or near-zero compression, who were able to restore piston oil seal by cranking to blow out the...

'94 V6 crank-no-start shortly after rebuild, need a little advice on ECT

I have checked compression again out of frustration and found 0 compression at 1 and 6. Doesn't even budge the needle. Others are exactly where they were the first day. I am blown away right now. Don't even know what to think. I am going to take a shower and forget about the truck for the night...

'94 V6 crank-no-start shortly after rebuild, need a little advice on ECT

RonJR: thank you for the referral, I will post over there as well. I did ohm out the AFM and everything was within spec. mholme, I did use a paperclip to jump E1 and TE1, although I didn't think to check whether the MIL was flashing before turning the key to start. Might have been good...

'94 V6 crank-no-start shortly after rebuild, need a little advice on ECT

Changed the ECT and symptoms are unchanged. Pulled CSI connector and it seems to have improved; it seems a little closer to catching. I have an old igniter that I'll try when I get home later. I forgot to mention earlier that I had the six main injectors bench-tested and rebuilt before putting...

    need some advice

Hey! I am wrapping up a rebuild and have been compiling a list of worthwhile things which might otherwise be overlooked, as a resource for others... good timing :) Are you planning to open up the engine more than you need to for the timing belt? If so you might as well replace the knock...

    Starting problem, HELP!!!

There are two similar-looking two-wire sensors in that area(at least on my engine): one is the CSITS, the other is the ECM temp sensor(the single-wire gauge temp sender is between them). Both are apparently common causes of starting and driveability issues and if you're going to be scraping...

    Starting problem, HELP!!!

Is there a simpler means of testing fuel pressure than buying an adapter or installing a permanent elbow to the rail? I'd kinda like to check fuel pressure on mine as well, since I replaced the fuel pump and filter after the truck sat for a couple of years. Edit: also, is it possible that...

    Starting problem, HELP!!!

Is your cold start injector opening? If your cold start injector is good but not opening, check the cold start injector time switch. It's kind of difficult to reach - in that coolant manifold behind the lower intake manifold - but if you can get the connector off, there should be 30-50 ohms...

New 2nd gen V6 Starter Removal Trick

The heat shield was the trick for me as well. I had saved the starter for almost-last while dropping the engine back into mine('94 V6 4WD) and thought I'd have enough room, but couldn't quite get it in without pulling the heat shield. I also pulled and set aside a pair of vacuum hoses(wrapped...

'94 V6 crank-no-start shortly after rebuild, need a little advice on ECT

Hello world - The tall-deer is: can a failed-open ECT sensor cause a no-start with liquid fuel in the intake manifold and tailpipe? Long version: I have a '94 V6 4WD on which I just finished a complete engine rebuild(long-term project, I spent about two years on it). Last Thursday I started it...

Reinstalling crossover pipe during overhaul... way tight?

Thanks for the reply and photos! I will see about having the thing cut down and that section replaced. I had assumed that bulge was simply a chamber for noise control or something.

Reinstalling crossover pipe during overhaul... way tight?

Greetings. I am finally able to spend some time in the garage putting the 4Runner's engine back together! Seems like I spend more time cleaning than turning ratchets... anyway. I've been following the FSM pretty much to the letter(yes, I've been doing more work than necessary), and when I...

Oilpan and windage tray coating stripped?

Thanks for the reply. Mine was blackened and parts of it have become oxidized so I thought I had done some damage.
