    98 SR5 - The "Dirt Duster" build

You need to pop through Kelowna sometime and come say hi to her! The Duster still get lookee-loos constantly. I keep pointing them over to this thread! lol Also, it'd be cool to meet the man whose work I envied for so long.

Burning smell after driving the truck

Check your trannies! I only say this because I've had that odd "burning" smell that started up about 3 months ago after a long highway drive. Checked my tranny fluid and confirmed it to be "burning"/wearing. Changed this out and now the smell is gone, just need to investigate the issue further.

    Optima batteries

Yup, and JCI saw that. There was a period of nearly two years where the batteries were not being properly filled and they changed this process. They also adjusted the warranty during this period and any reputable optima dealer will/would have swapped out any with the manufacturing ID between...

    Optima batteries

For that style of usage, you'll be using those heavy draws when the vehicle is on/running 90% of the time anyways, or at least you should be. If you plan on doing that style of draw when the vehicle is off, you want to look into a dual battery system otherwise you run the risk of leaving...

    Optima batteries

You need to get your information here straight. Optima's are an AGM style battery, they are not(nor have they ever been) a gel battery. Gel batteries are extremely rare in the consumer market, being used in mainly health care situations due to the cleanliness of the battery(and being cost...

    Hello from BC!

Welcome to the obsession!! Kelownite here, good to see more of us in the Okanagan area! I have a 97 limited right now that I am working on ensuring a long life out of the motor/drive train and then getting to work on mods after that!

WTB - '97(3rd Gen) key fob for the VIP alarm system.

Hey guys! Mine is horribly failing as the pad on the actual button has become loose. I'm looking to buy the smaller two button Key Fob if anyone has any extras? I am in BC, Canada. Thanks!

Running with 4x4 on all the time. Pros/Cons

Exactly why I was posting my experience and looking for any ideas on what may be wrong with it. :) I will definitely take all advice to heart, I was unaware of that difference between the v1/v2 3rd gens :)

Running with 4x4 on all the time. Pros/Cons

I kind of figured it would be ok as the truck is, more or less, designed for such use. I'll be sure to be more active on maintenance with the increase in usage, but at least I'll know I have 4x4 when/if I need it on the trails.

Running with 4x4 on all the time. Pros/Cons

Hey gang! I have a 97 4runner limited and my 4x4 had decided to act up in this past month. I went mildly off-roading(literally just snow running along some very mild mountain trails) but was using my 4x4 in low(not using rear locker). Every was good, not getting stuck or anything, disengaged...

    Rear Mount Turbo exhaust

This looks amazing, and sounds fierce! I'm looking forward to pursuing this in the future as soon as some funding crosses my path! Thanks so much for doing this guys!

Bought Odyssey Battery, Now Cables Too Short!

The hardest part in replacing your cables is remembering traces. The loom that comes off of an OEM truck + is annoying. VERY worth while though, and while you're at it, replace all the other grounds with a single gauge up in size as well! I've been slowly replacing all the cables in my truck...

Confirm parts list - Tundra brake upgrade

My post count doesn't matter, nor do my contributions at this time since I've only had my truck and been a member for a matter of months and am still learning. Not sure what name calling I did though, I think you have me confused with someone else. On your topic though, I've done the searches...

Confirm parts list - Tundra brake upgrade

You're attitude needs a bit of readjusting as well, since you seem to have skimmed this thread and ignored some key points which led you to rage for no reason and make yourself look silly. Trust me, some of the references the guys around here use take research in and of itself. The 6/3 spoke...

My new buy - have I missed any initial maintenance?

Never hurts to fill a few zerks! We sound close to about the same skill level, just enough to be dangerous. I do need to pick up a proper floor jack, but I have access to a nice warm shop area that we can pull the truck into and get it in the air a bit. As long as it's in the evening. Just...
