Transmission not fully engaging in some gears when cold.

That does sound like my problem. A quick Google found a thread suggesting a low battery could cause shift solenoid problems. In extreme cold and after sitting, the battery is weak. I did jump it yesterday after it sat for two months in the cold. If it is down near 0f, it does crank slowly...

Transmission not fully engaging in some gears when cold.

Bring truck to operating temp, check dipstick while running. Got it to 160 today and the fluid was at the bottom of the hot range. I am towing over the mountains next week, so I’ll bring a qt of fluid and a funnel to set it correctly.

Transmission not fully engaging in some gears when cold.

I did the method where you remove a hose from the radiator and run the truck, draining a qt, fill a qt, etc. I can’t recall how many qts I ran through, but it was a lot. I did not drop the pan, but the fluid looked relatively clean.

Transmission not fully engaging in some gears when cold.

2000 sr5 automatic 150k miles. I’ve experienced this problem very intermittently for the last few years. When it is extremely cold (< 0F) or the truck has been sitting for an extended period (a month or more) then when I first start up, I can drive, but D and 2 don’t really move the truck...

tie rod end angle after alignment

I just changed my LBJs before a big road trip, so I took the truck in for an alignment. I was looking underneath for a final inspection and noticed the tie rod ends were at pretty different angles. On the right side, the tie rod end is aligned to the LBJ, whereas on the left, there is a lot of...

    fuel filter help

I give up. Same thing happened. The new filter gushed gas on every try, but he old filter was leak free on the first try again. Clearly my new filter is f*cked. I will see if the dealer will swap it. I'm not holding my breath... and I was using two wrenches,

    fuel filter help

I am using a 14mm flare nut wrench. I will give it another try today. it's odd to me because the leak is not small. it pretty much pours out. I wonder if the nut is somehow bottoming out without pressing the tube into the flare.

    fuel filter help

I've been doing a big overhaul on my 2000 4runner, getting ready for a road trip. Tonight, I tried to swap the fuel filter. The new one went on easily, but i couldn't get the gas tank side to not leak! I tried taking off and reseating the fuel line about 6 times. finally, I tried the old...

Guide: Radiator and Thermostat Replacement for Noobs

Hmm, you put your jiggler valve a 6 o'clock. I've seen a lot of writeups to put it at 12 o'clock. The online FSM says 6 o'clock, but it is from 1998, so this might have changed since then. 12 o'clock would make more sense to me, since it allows air to escape. So which one is it? Will it...

    leaking heater core?

In case anyone would like to know what happened, I figured out that some coolant leaked down behind the foam that is attached to the back wall of the engine bay when I blew it out of the heater core. It must have puddled somewhere, and when I went for my first drive, it sloshed out by the AC...

    leaking heater core?

I am getting occasional steam from just in front of the windshield on the passenger side. When I look in there, I think I am seeing drips coming from near what must be the AC condenser drain (right angle drain tube) but towards the driver enough that it hits the exhaust. Smells like coolant to...

    mixed coolant

The heater core is easy enough to flush with a hose and probably needs it anyway after 14 years. As for the engine, can I put a hose on the top and let it drain out the bottom, or should I use the chemical method where I fill the system up with distilled water and chemical flush, run the...

    mixed coolant

Thanks. Off to the dealership to pick up the crank bolt and coolant. Maybe I can finish this tonight!

    mixed coolant

Somewhere along the line, someone mixed green and red antifreeze in my 4runner. I discovered this when replacing the timing belt, water pump, thermostat and radiator. under the waterpump, there is a little caked on gunk, which I think could be from the two incompatible fluids. Most of the...

Anyone bought this timing belt/water pump kit on Amazon?

water pump gasket I am working on my timing belt/water pump job. Since the aircabinman kit comes with a gasket for the water pump, does that mean I don't need any FIPG at all, I can just put it on dry? Thanks
