I have a 2007 4Runner Sport. I just recently bought a tow rope and some D-rings so that I can pull people who are stuck (snow, mud, etc.).
The two small loops that are attached to my hitch -- are they strong enough for this task? Can I hook the D-ring directly to those loops? (picture).

I just tried this on my 2007 4Runner Sport. For those that have this vehicle, here are a few things that might help:
1) If you have access to a pet store, buy the silicon tubing that they use for air pumps. The black tubing costs about $3 and snaps around the little bars...
For anyone who finds this thread while trying to solver their problem, the new gas cap fixed my problem. I bought a generic $14 gas cap from O'Reilly, replaced it, and then left the negative terminal off of my battery for a few hours. No issues upon restart.
