Never ending random misfire issue - RESOLVED on our 02 3rd gen 4runner

I wanted to post this to maybe help some of you out or at least maybe point you to a possibility. Also, share some findings. On our 2002 4runner with 280K miles, it started to develop a misfire a few months back. Totally random. Could be at a stop light, or driving down the freeway. It was...

Easy DIY Airbag Installation - load leveling / towing

Not for the hardcore wheelers, but knocked out an airbag install on my sons 3rd gen (Had the same setup on my white 3rd gen for many, many years before my oldest destroyed it  It is perfect if you want to level a load or tow often and can't stand the saggy ass look. Rides significantly...

Anyone try Lucas Mining and Construction grease?

Agreed, but the other ingredients are as important as zinc, calcium and so forth in motor oil. The additives package is what makes or breaks a grease or oil. This one looked a little unique.

Anyone try Lucas Mining and Construction grease?

It is a lithium grease with 5% moly. Was thinking of trying it out in the u-joints & DC as I tow often. High moly content is generally frowned upon in ujoints due to some claims of bearing slippage vs rolling... but most that use it have reported excellent results. At only 5% not worried about...

    Denso 221-0508 radiator - $101.99

Denso does make a lot of OEM radiators including for toyota. I run the Denso rads noted in this post. Excellent quality, no issues at all.

    Toyo Open Country A/T II

I had the ATII on two separate vehicles and they were excellent - I would recommend them to anyone. I switched to their MT on both my 4runners and will stick with them even though they are heavier. 100% happy with this tire in all respects. Big toyo fan after switching from BFG & goodyear from...

    Marlin Crawler HD clutch nightmare

Indeed - a worn pivot ball / clutch fork is what sounds like started your whole mess. And it sure will do it too. I do not see this as a marlin crawler issue. I see this as a mechanic issue as he did not inspect both parts in detail before re-assembly. A painful lesson as most places and even...

Venting tons of gas fumes while offroading in SoCal heat

Rollover check valve on the 01 / 02. Very common. When they fail -you get a nasty gas smell at the back of the car or around the car. Needs replaced. While you have the tank down to replace it - change your fuel pump. Your situation may be different - never seen it flow out the filler area...

Your favorite tools for wrenching / tech tools for special applications

For the above long needle nose pliers comments - I bought a cheap set with straight, 20, 45 and 90 degree tips. Bought them ages ago and they have been used a LOT. I consider them a must have. Best tool set for spring clamps in odd spots. Mine were made by mastergrip back when the handles...

Your favorite tools for wrenching / tech tools for special applications

Go a size larger. It seems they shrunk over the years or my hangs got bigger. The large are just too small anymore. Have to go XL and you can get them on OK. Also helps to use a little baby powder on your hands before putting them on.

My 4gunner restore, refurb and re-work

I bought mine from an ebay seller actually. If they are current inventory and the part number I outlined, they will be blue. I think most sellers just post a generic stock photo. All the ebay photos were black too but when I received the package, they were the new blue ones.

My 4gunner restore, refurb and re-work

I have had excellent luck with them and I do think the valve cover gaskets themselves are better (thinking back at my valve cover jobs that have lasted for the long haul vs ones that leaked again in 100k or so). The cam caps and such are equal to OEM - nothing special there. The blue gaskets...
