Why were black letters used in this 07 SR5 display? IMO they are harder to see. I feel a clear lens would help this issue or white background letters. Have any had a problem with seeing with ease from a glance and found a solution. Please excuse me jumping in with this concern.

In the 70s I used 2 over-sized self tapping plugs on Fords. They held the metal from cutting new threads good. Or, pull the pan and re-tap if the metal will support re-tapping. See if the dealer carry and support oversize plugs. Good Luck!
