Starter relay. 2nd generations are well known for having a bad starter relay. Find it. Replace it and see if that helps.

215k miles getting about 12-14 on highway and yes I did a tune up just last month, fuel filter, spark plugs, distributor cap and rotor, air filter...

I have a 1990 runner v6 3.0..... I know that for the O/D to kick in it needs to be at a certain temp degree... If I put in a cold air intake will it mess with the temp? sorry if this is a noob question I'm new to this thread and its my first 4runner. Thanks
