Sixth Gen Explorer - 4Runner Competition?

I'd think you would be surprised. Modern turbo motors are nothing like turbo motors of the past. When not chasing absolute peak numbers you can see peak torque number well below 3000rpm. I used to really be into VW's back in my teen years. When VW came out with their 1.8T motor, peak torque hit...

    frame mounted hitch??...Toyota/Lexus??

I don't have any pictures. There's three parts to this. The bracket that takes the place of the factory hitch that attaches to the crossmember The Lexus hitch itself that attaches to the frame. 3-4 plates (glorified washers. There's a 1" gap between the crossmember bracket and Lexus hitch. The...

    frame mounted hitch??...Toyota/Lexus??

Yes I did have the plates welded. In all honesty there is nothing really wrong with the factory hitch attached to the crossmember. Mine was defective and bent under very minimal weight distribution spring bar tension (I have a 17ft Nash), the dealer refused to believe it was defective so I went...

DeeZee running boards on a 2015

Does anyone know if you can use the oem running board brackets with the Dee Zee boards? A brand new set of Dee Zee boards is cheaper than replacing just the metal (no rubber inserts) of one oem board.

I made a mistake and bought a Jeep....

That's awesome. What I find shocking is the company loyalties. When I was looking at purchasing our 4runner at the end of 2011, we did look at the JGC. Doing online research I was looking at the consumer reports website (I know, I know) they had all the reliability ratings, they had ratings on...

    20 inch wheels on LIMITED

Stock tires are done after 90K. Looking at options. We don't offroad and are on dirt roads once in a while for camping. Looking at the Continental LX20 and the Michelin Premier LTX. LTX is a new tire. Does anyone have any experience with it?

    Thank You 5th Gen Forum

I just want to say thanks to everyone who contributes to this forum and answers questions with actual facts, science, and engineering. I'm a previous Tacoma owner that moved to a 4Runner. I was interested in the unveiling of the 2016 Tacoma as we are a one vehicle family and we are missing the...

    Can I tow this camper?

3900lbs dry, easily add 800lbs of water and gear, then add a bunch more weight in that excessively large storage area right on the tongue and you have a recipe to be way over 500lb tongue weight and 5000lb overall weight.

    2010+ TRD Supercharger

You would be amazed at what the factory's put vehicles through before they go out to the public. I laugh at the posts "omg I slightly turned on pavement with 4wheel drive engaged! Did I destroy my drivetrain?" Posts. A bunch of years ago I watched a documentary on the making of the Harley...

    4Runner alternator upgrade (gen 5)

The only thing I would suggest is you load the system and take ammeter readings of the factory power wire and the new power wire you've installed to make sure you are not overloading either. Paralleling cables of different size and length can cause issues. Electricity is stupid and doesn't go...

    Extended Warranty

Phoned around a few dealers and was getting quotes in the 2500-2800 range for the 7yr/160km! Insane. Should have pulled the trigger a year ago with Troy for $1000. Really is it remotely worth it? To me it is for $1k, not 2.8k. I mean we buy a Toyota for its reliability. At work we have a mix...

    Extended Warranty

Any ideas for Canadians and extended warranty? Getting close to the manufacturers limit. And with the whole out of state business going on. Dealers around here quoting more than double.

    I Rented A Chevrolet Traverse

The 4runner is in a weird class which as time goes by a class of few (bof SUV). The better comparison to a Traverse would be the Highlander, which does have a power tailgate.
