Transmission fluid (ATF) change (using the cooling line) 5th gen 4runner.

You certainly can, but if you use the return line then you'll also be flushing all the old fluid in the radiator/trans cooler. No sense leaving all the old fluid in there IMHO.

Anyone else getting marks on the inside of your windows after you roll them down/up?

So 2010 5th gen owner, 340K miles and running strong! But lately I've been getting marks on the inside of all four side windows when I roll them down and back up. They're translucent horizontal lines/marks that require Windex to clean them off. I'm guessing the pads that hold the windows in...

Mods - ATRAC & Locking rear dif in other than 4L

It's a wear on the brakes for sure. With a locker you have 100% of your power going to both tires. With ATRAC you're basically pumping the brakes on the wheel that's spinning in an effort to redirect power to the wheel on the other side of the differential. Still it does work but not as...

Mods - ATRAC & Locking rear dif in other than 4L

Not at all - there's really no possible mechanical adverse effects that I'm aware of as long as you don't use it on pavement. The annoying thing is the CEL and a few other of the Traction Control lights will come on, but they go off after a few miles/ignition cycles, and I could probably force...

Mods - ATRAC & Locking rear dif in other than 4L

So in my experience using this mod for many years, flipping the switch and/or engaging the locker and/or ATRAC do not automatically flip the CEL on, it takes some time using it in that mode. So I'm not completely sure what feedback the ECU is getting that it doesn't like, I'm just guessing that...

Mods - ATRAC & Locking rear dif in other than 4L

Shouldn't be any problem working in 2H. The point of the mod is to trick the ECU into thinking you're in 4L so it'll allow the ATRAC and rear locker to engage. I've been using this mod for years an it works well - the only issue I have is that if you go too fast with it engaged, the CEL comes...

    Cel 12 14 22 & 24

Yea good question. So I think my oil change light was factory set for 5,000 miles and Toyota later changed the approved interval to 7,500. I use a high quality synthetic so every other time the light is lit I just reset it, meaning I change every 10,000. So lesson learned, I'll just change...

    Cel 12 14 22 & 24

So reporting back that this problem is solved without timing chain replacement! Turns out that the variable vale timing on the 5th gen is controlled by hydraulic pistons and they are driven by oil pressure. Apparently my pistons got gunked up and were sticking and thus not adjusting the...

    Cel 12 14 22 & 24

Hmm that doesn't sounds like a fun project. I've only used Mobile 1 synthetic. Initially I used 0w-20 but after 100K miles I started getting a small oil leak so I switched to 5W-20.

    Cel 12 14 22 & 24

I thought of that, but if that were the case it seems that I'd be getting either an advanced or a retarded code, but not both advanced and retarded codes.

    Cel 12 14 22 & 24

2010 4runner Trail with 260K miles. Keep getting all four of these codes and haven't found any information online. I clear the codes and they return very quickly. Performance is ok but mileage is worse than usual. The codes say bank one and two camshaft is both over-retarded and...

P0441 code with Trac off light

I'm getting a P0441 code and the Trac off light. Replacing the gas cap to no avail. Cleared the codes and the CEL light just comes back after a short time. From what I can tell it's likely either a bad vacuum switching valve or a bad charcoal canister, which is possible since I did overfill...

Part Number For Center Console Lid?

Thank you and great price! Is there a secret to the install or does the entire assembly have to come apart?

Part Number For Center Console Lid?

Just seeing if anyone has replaced their center console lid yet? After 10 years mine is cracking and needs to be replaced.

    Power steering failure

You were correct. Very simple job. Take the pressure hose bolt off through the right fenderwell - I had to use an impact wrench. Then remove three bolts through the pulley - two mounting bolts and one bracket bolt, disconnect the pressure switch connector, the return hose, and off it comes.
