Yes, I replaced mine a couple years ago after reading about it here plus I mentioned it to 3 other 3rd Gen owners who quickly followed with their own replacements.

Thanks for the responses. I guess the first thing to do is check the purge valve. Maybe I'll get lucky but sometimes I was adding another 5 to 6 bucks worth of extra gas before going on a road trip so I suspect the cannister is toast.

I've been having a somewhat similar situation with my 97 4Runner except it only happens at start-up when we get some rain or wet snow. It doesn't happen every time either. When it does, it runs pretty rough until it's warmed up considerably. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Glad you got it figured out but too bad the dealer won't program the replacement key you have. Pretty absurd charging $65 for one key. I got my 3 replacements for less then $30 including shipping to Canada. Oh well, like you said, it could of been worse.

Yes, your probably right that if the light is steady at the end of step 3, you must of done everything right up to that point. I have a 2007 sport edition as well and had no problem at all syncing 2 spare keys yesterday. Do you leave the master key in the ignition during the key in/out phase?
