So I took the plunge today. I didn't take a lot of pictures, but I am in the process of putting in some 2003 Acura TL-S seats.
Since I live in San Diego, I ditched the rear seat heater. The way I figure it is that the value of the truck has diminished enough so far that who ever gets this...
The biggest problem with the 1GR-FE is that the sump area is wildly different and not very adaptable to the 3rd Gen platform. That's what I have read anyway. Plus, I don't want to be dicking around with VVTi.
I have been doing lots of research just because I am tired of the automatic behind the 3.4. It is just so slow.
If you want to stick to automatic, then a 5.3 Gen III GM motor would be a great way to go. I believe you can just bolt up the yota T-case to the 4L60-E transmission.

That's an idea. My truck has some 4th Gen Honda Prelude seats in it that I installed. Nice and sporty. Wrong color, but whatever.
Tomorrow I plan on looking at some 2003 Acura TL-S seats that should match my interior and be a lot more comfortable. That being said, I don't want to deal with...
Necro-bump. But, my first repair has failed. I am debating on just ripping out that support and welding in some square stock in it's place and fabbing up some new mounts. I will lose rear heat (in San Diego, haha!) but I am not worried about that. Also, I will be able to get rid of the tilt...
I listen to a ton of AM radio so I hope to be doing this too. The non-Toyota antenna seems like a good option.
Does anyone else listen to AM radio and notice an improvement by getting rid of the powered piece?
When my first axle seal went south, I had the parts counter guy sell me a new Timken. He suggested getting some RTV and smearing it on the outside of the freshly installed seal. Over 100K later, I am golden. I did that for a friend too. One of his went bad and we replaced both using the same...
Interesting story on the drive shaft. I am chasing down something similar. I first thought it was wheel bearings. But I have been reading that u-joints cause some funkiness too.
I want to say thanks for this thread. Read it many moons ago and since I need to pad my post count in order to get help on something, I might as well say something.
Oh and after 235K, I had a heater valve hose let go. It was catastrophic!
