    steering problems/heaviness

Well, here's the story. i replaced my steering pump in march due to a heavy feel and what seemed to be a lack of power assist. It seemed better initially, but now the problem has returned much worse. The 4runner has 130k miles on it. Here is the best description I can muster. Steering wheel...

    Power steering failure

it is so weird that I saw this post. Mine has exhibited the exact same problem, though my reservoir has never gone empty. The pump has hummed since 70k miles, and it just finally started manifesting itself at 130k. I found a reman'd pump for 100 and I am doing it this weekend. Are there any...

Stuck pedal found on 4runner. Not good..

after reading all this stuff posted in this thread, here are some thoughts here's a wild idea - industrial sabotage in the form of a computer "virus" of sorts...maybe that is a wild idea, but why couldn't it be. Can't spin 'em in a 4runner, can you? I mean with the traction control, I can't...

    Weird short - trans related

Solved! i was sitting here thinking about what I had suggested in my original post...so out came the trusty WD40 and I gave the connector a good spray of that. Lo and behold...problem solved. Now to call the dealer to get a new plug.

    Weird short - trans related

Weird short - trans related - HELP NEEDED! I am having issues with a very odd short in my 2004 V6. When I turn on my headlights, the reverse indicator light on the dash comes on. This is regardless of what gear I am in, or if I am in park or neutral. If the headlights are off, it is fine...

    Front Brake Pad Life!

You DEFINITELY do not need to remove the caliper bolts during the front brake pad replacement. Doing so is asking for more trouble in the future. You pull the spring clip, tap the pins out with a nail or properly sized punch, lift the pads out, compress the pistons using a pair of channellocks...

    torque converter lockup

here's the deal. The lock-up is electronically controlled via a single solenoid. When road speed and throttle position are correct, the ECU sends 12v to the solenoid to lock the TC when in 3 or D. Feeding 12v to the solenoid via a switch will force lockup in other gears or at different...

    Jacking Point

my bottle jack works fine at all specified locations and I have never had the troubles that you seem to be experiencing. I even have oversize tires, so I am not sure why you are having such troubles. My flood jack is nothing special and it will life the whole side off the ground from the side...

    torque converter lockup

I have a cooler and a gauge installed. I don't think the mechanism not being strong enough is the reason though. It is actually experiencing less load in the lower gears due to the gear reduction. It has something to do with throttle position and road speed. Plus, I don't want it to lock all...

    torque converter lockup

Does anyone know if there is a way to get the Torque Converter to lock up in 1st ad 2nd. It does it in 3rd and OD, but a computer trick to get it to lock up in 1 and 2 would be really handy when I am towing in the mountains to keep the temps down. Trans is an A340F backing a V-6 in a 2004. I...

    changed my sparkplugs today

I changed my plugs this afternoon and the driver's side bank was NGK and the passengers side was DENSO. These are the original plugs. Anyone else notice this when they did there first plug change? The DENSO's electrodes looked better but they were dark around the porcelain. The NGKs...
