Weird short - trans related - HELP NEEDED!
I am having issues with a very odd short in my 2004 V6. When I turn on my headlights, the reverse indicator light on the dash comes on. This is regardless of what gear I am in, or if I am in park or neutral. If the headlights are off, it is fine. Now here is another weird bit of info, when the light is on, the trans will not shift out of the gear it is in. If you turn the lights on when the trans is in 3rd, it will stay in 3rd, until I slow way down. It then down shifts. It also will not shift if I go through the gears manually when the lights are on - even parking lights. If the lights are off, all is well, and the shifts are normal.
Here's an idea I had. while wheeling 3 years ago, i ripped the trailer wiring cover off. we have had boatloads of snow, accompanied by the salt - is there any way the trailer wiring could be causing this short since the cover is gone and is allowing water to get on the contacts?
Truck has 130k on it, but was fine until my wife was on her way home from the store this evening.
Also, the dash lit up like a christmas tree afterwards - VSC OFF, Engine, etc.
I am looking for ideas....and a wiring diagram would be helpful, which i do not have.
