    bike racks

I have the Yakima SwingDaddy bike rack which holds up to 4 bikes. I need the Yakima top-loader for my bikes. It's a very solid bike rack and I have driven thousands of miles with two bikes on this rack. It is especially convenient during camping as I don't have to off-load the bikes to get to my...

Disabling vehicle for storage and anti-theft protection

I will be out-of-town for 4-6 weeks. I would like to disable my vehicle so it cannot be started. I usually disconnect the negative battery terminal anyways. In my previous 2nd generation T4R, in the electric box inside the engine bay, I used to take out a large (I believe blue fuse) fuse which...

    Clicking noise after drive-belt change

Issue resolved! Tightening the tensioner bolt has worked. The last few days, I checked to see if I can hear the clicking noise when I started up the truck every morning - and there has been no noise. I waited a few days to see if the noise comes back or not - so far so good - it hasn't. A bit...

    Clicking noise after drive-belt change

Thanks for your suggestion. You may be 100% correct. Well, I went back to the mechanic but by that time the clicking had stopped. He tightened the tensioner bolt a little bit. I will monitor it in the next few days and see if it has made any difference. Will keep you all posted.

    Clicking noise after drive-belt change

I had my drive belt replaced last week with Toyota OEM one. I have 73k miles on this truck with the OEM belt. The mechanic was able to do this in about 10 minutes and said belt-tensioner would automatically adjust and tighten up the tension after the new belt was installed. In the morning when...

Is 600 too much to change diff and trans case fluid

You will be just fine. Go for it. I have done service on mine twice including the transmission. Just gets a little messy with the fluid and the pump. With the right pump and attachments it's no problem. Just don't torque the transfer case plugs too tight - apply the specified torque. Those are...

    06 SR5 v6 towing question?

I would highly recommend getting a transmission cooler. Someone in this forum installed a tranny cooler himself. He was very helpful and shared some information about the cooler and how he installed it. Here is the website for the tranny cooler: Tru-Cool LPD thin, Stacked Plate cooler kit...

    Spark Plugs??

Is Iridium better than Platinum plugs? When I replaced my stock plugs, I went with NGK Platinum plugs. Is there a down-side to the Platinum plugs? Any difference with gas mileage? The only difference I had seen was, it seems like my idle RPM (when transmission in Park or Neutral), is a bit...

    5th Gen Wheels on a 4th Gen

Simple, This is the most intelligent and most hilarious posting I have ever seen in any T4R forum. Thanks - needed some LOL! Good question and GREAT answer!

    Weathertech Cargo Mats

I just used box-cutters to open up square holes (4) for the tie-down hooks. I have removed the 3rd row seats and store them in plastic bags. I only install them when needed which is quite rare. Also driving around with the extra weight, I guess, is not very fuel-efficient. So I have not cut...

    2003 4Runner Limited Averaging 12 mpg ?

Those are great suggestions. I have never really trusted the gasoline mileage calculation by the computer. I try getting it by manual calculation based on a full-tank of gas and the odometer reading. Does anyone know what is the max capacity of the gas tank on a V6 SR5 4WD drive? I believe it...

    Car and Driver Mag

Yep I read it just couple of days back. Good thing you brought it up. I was very glad to read all the positive experiences he has had with all his 4Runners. I was contemplating sending him a e-mail thanking him for the great coverage.

    265/70/17 w/o a lift?

I have that size with Yokohama Geolander A/T-S (E rating with I was told 10 ply) on stock wheels, stock suspension (no-lift). No issues yet. Went off-roading once in Death Valley. Peformed pretty well. The only minor rubbing I see is with lock-to-lock turning however that also seems to be very...

    New tires = less mpg?

You are right. The Yokohama Geolander tires are lighter for equivalent size. I have heard they have good tread-life.

    New tires = less mpg?

I switched to one size larger tires to LT265/70R17 (17" wheels) Yokohama Geolander AT-S with E rating (which is 10 ply sidewall). My OEM street tires were Michelin 265/65R17. I have noticed quite a drop of gas mileage - maybe down to 15-16mpg. I calculate the mileage manually by the ODO mileage...
