If you're going to drive in beach-like sand, including dunes, you might want to to let air out of your tires, leaving about 18 psi. Drive slowly. If you feel the vehicle drifting seriously and you're losing control, let go of the wheel, allowing it to spin the tires back to "straight ahead."...

I'm wasn't certain that I would want to remove the rack; just wanted to know how difficult or easy it might be to take it off and then put it back on, if it ever was necessary and what treatment the roof would require. Thanks for your info.

I bought a '99 4Runner Limited, only one of the two vehicles I've enjoyed. (First was a '57 Bug.) My only questions right now are: how do I remove the stock roof rack? How do I get it back on? And, will there be holes in the roof if I remove it? This is my first 4Runner. Even my wife has fallen...
