Valuable lesson learned. If you can, do your own work!

:frusty::frusty::frusty: Gave my Limited to a "Mechanic" old neighbor who had been asking me for some work before he moved. Told him my steering rack needed to be replaced, he was up for the job, no problem he says. I give him the new rack plus fluids. He gives me back, broken sway bar end...

Brilliant! Hopefully it lasts another 28 years! First thing I snag from junkyard cars, I have a few in my ashtray just in case!

Timing belt install, cams one tooth off!

:gun5: I can't seem to get the cams and crank timing to line up correctly. The damn cams just want to turn ever so slightly when sliding the belt on. Maybe a two man job for this??

What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Decided today was the day to replace the timing belt and water pump. Worked out well, because as I pulled into my driveway several days ago from a Colorado trip I could hear the water pump making a grinding noise. Sure enough, pulled it and it's hosed, so far so good. I started on the tensioner...

Lesson Learned RE: Injectors and fixed P0172

I chased a P0171 code for awhile and finally decided that I would refresh most of the fuel system when my 4Runner hit 300k. I replaced all the vacuum lines first, with silicon ones as recommended by someone here, it didn't fix the problem. FPR Newer Charcoal canister (mine had a huge crack)...

    P0172 after fuel injectors.

My apologies, just saw this.. You're correct, not Aisin, I just assumed... $70 for the pack ENA 2 Hole Fuel Injector 23250-62040 Pack of 6 Compatible with 1999-2004 Toyota 4Runner Tacoma Tundra 3.4L V6 There might have been a bad one in there... Just because I'm at 300K/mi. and It's only a...

Changed out my vacuum hoses with silicon- pic

:biggrin1: Holy crap the coupon still works! Just ordered a black kit and it gave me $3 off. Hopefully I can solve some vacuum leaks I've been chasing. Thanks! :thanks:

    P0172 after fuel injectors.

Both change in 2017, it certainly could be time again. Car had about 230k-240k on the clock when I changed them. Probably wouldn't hurt to change again...

    P0172 after fuel injectors.

Any luck with a fix for this? Just replaced my 300k injectors and the car went from a long term P0171 to immediate P0172! :redbrick: Maintenance done: New injectors (aisin) New Valve cover gaskets cleaned IAC and throttle body Couple of new vacuum hoses Cleaned MAF (the correct way) New PCV...

    Front Wheel Bearing Replacement

Just watched earlier today, great video! I have to do tie rods, ball joints and brakes, figured while I'm in there I might as do the 300,000 mi bearings!

Buzzing noise under glove box for a few seconds after cranking or swtiching from heat

That looks like the blend door actuator. If your 4Runner has the electronic HVAC controls that's what the buzzing/clicking noise most likely is. Usually after time the plastic gear(s) inside get chewed up. You can open the thing up, rotate the big gear around 180 degrees and close her back up...

Gas door won't open when I pull the lever

I found a rubber eraser on the ground by a gas pump, it's what I jam under the handle everytime I fill up. Too lazy to replace yet another clip.... :embarassed:
