Drive shaft noise or U joint noise (LEXUS 4/06 TSB page 18) aka Driveshaft thump/bump

Are you sure you got all the zerts? I used to get clunking right when I released the brakes after coming to a hard stop. It went away for almost a 1 year before I had to regrease. I'm sure you are experiencing the same problem as all of us. Try adding more grease in a couple weeks.

I just used Mobil 1 Synthetic grease. It works great! Going on 12months without the problem. There is no reason to spend $34 for grease. The $3 stuff works just as good.

99 4x4 cold weather hard start

How easy is it to replace the starter terminals? Do I have to go through the same removal process? I get that first click. Wait a second, and then it fires up. It's been happeing intermittently these past few weeks. Its a 99 V6 , with 105K miles. I just replaced the battery for the first time...

Drive shaft noise or U joint noise (LEXUS 4/06 TSB page 18) aka Driveshaft thump/bump

There are two grease fittings at the slip joint. You need to look hard, or just feel around for it. They look like little stubs. They may be camoflaged from all the dirt. I had the same problem with my 98 4wd and lubing every 10K miles or so has solved the problem permenantlly. I remember...

Drive shaft noise or U joint noise (LEXUS 4/06 TSB page 18) aka Driveshaft thump/bump

couldn't stop laughing the first time I read it. :jester: on a serious note, I had this problem last year and posted to this topic. Haven't had to re-lube since then. Maybe over-doing it isn't good for the shaft. ;)

2 questions--throttle postion sensor, and trans fluid change

Hey guys!!! I'm new to this forum, actually I've been reading posts for a few years finally decide to join. I have three questions. I own a 99 SR5 V6 A couple months back I was getting a CEL for the throttle position sensor( would come and go). I sprayed some WD-40 on the trottle thinking...

Drive shaft noise or U joint noise (LEXUS 4/06 TSB page 18) aka Driveshaft thump/bump

brake job I was planning on replacing the pads, but I had problems removing 2 pins which insert through the pads and the caliper mounts. It's there to keep the pad's in place. Maybe all you will need is a large needle nose plier to remove them. (Maybe someone else can explain that step)...

Drive shaft noise or U joint noise (LEXUS 4/06 TSB page 18) aka Driveshaft thump/bump

brake noise and bad gas mileage question Skoobahead, I was able to pull off the calipers , remove the rotors( they just slide off) and then carefully slide the whole caliper after compressing the pads a bit over the new rotors..... took less than 20minutes per side.... maybe next time when I...

Drive shaft noise or U joint noise (LEXUS 4/06 TSB page 18) aka Driveshaft thump/bump

Skoobahead, I replaced my rotors about a month ago. I picked up a pair of brembos from tirerack. I was going to replace the pads and bought OEM's but soon realized that removing the pins that hold the pads in the caliper was going to turn into a new project. After a few minutes toying with it I...

Drive shaft noise or U joint noise (LEXUS 4/06 TSB page 18) aka Driveshaft thump/bump

I get the caliper noise too, especially when it's rainy out. Why is it when you call Toyota customer service, they do not acknowledge the drivetrain problem? I also have two other friends who have the same issue with their 4-runners. They happen to be the only other people I know besides you...

I think we can all admit, that even one of the best car manufacture's out there can make mistakes. Other than this problem, I have to say my 98' 4-runner has been the most reliable vehicle I have owned. I have problably dumped over $2500 in my wifes 99' mercedes for unexpected problems. The...

I called Toyota Corporate today.....they gave me the run-around ,made it sound like I was the first to make this sort of complaint...just like the dealership. They do not want to admit to a major design flaw, which makes sense, a lot sense. Every car has some design flaw.....we just got stuck...

Drive shaft noise or U joint noise (LEXUS 4/06 TSB page 18) aka Driveshaft thump/bump

I found that easing up on the gas and coasting to a stop helps with the severity. It does get annoying in stop and go traffic. I think it is a underlying design flaw which we will all have to live with. Toyota isn't going to acknowledge the problem since it isn't a saftey issue. Imagine them...
