2nd Gen Auto Tranny: starts in high gear

It works fine when shifting manually, but left in Drive, it will start in high gear. Any ideas? I heard there may be governor in the transmission that can be externally replaced. Can any one give advice?

Disable ABS on older 3rd gens!

After a couple of close calls with the ABS, I pulled the fuse and now enjoy safer driving. I dare anyone to go down a steep sandy hill with ABS, or try to make a quick stop on pavement with gravel at the front tires and dry pavement at the rear tires. There is nothing like hearing the tires...

where to find tundra TRD front coilovers

FMI, (for my information), do the TRD coil overs come in different lengths? In looking in Canada for them, apparently the Tundra 4X4 quad cab had lengths from 13.7" to 14.29." I need to specify which ones I want when looking at the wreckers. The 4WD 2 door models seem to be the same throughout...

    Tundra Shocks

I have been looking for the Tundra strut assemblies, and don't know what ones to get. No heights are specified for the 2WD or 4WD 2 door, but the 4WD 4 door has sizes specified from 13.7" to 14.29." Which did you use? I have found a couple of leads for the 14.29" length.

    Yet Another LIFT Question Thread...

I was reading about the 5100's, and they said it is a leveling kit and not a lift kit. The Bilstein 5100 Leveling Kit – First Look | Tundra Headquarters. Is the 2.5" lift you have in the front due to the fact it is from a Tundra? Have you noticed a reduction in the downward travel with your...

I don't like the low gas tank...Looks like a Pathfinder tank would work

That is definitely protected! Do you know what year of F 150 would fit? The reason I am concerned is that there is tight access to a number of local lakes and good places to hunt - though I have only had the 4Runner for a couple of months, I know I will not get in to those places, so I have...

I don't like the low gas tank...Looks like a Pathfinder tank would work

Hi, I was just comparing my 96 Limited to me 94 Pathfinder and it seems that the Pathfinder tank may fit where the spare tire is located. The tank is about 11" from the floor of the Pathy to the skid plate, which is a couple inches less than the spare tire, and the tank is 21" from front to...

    Diff Lock Bypass Issue

Yes, the the wire to the plug is grounded. I used spade connectors so I can easily change it from stock wiring to the ground. The 4wd lamp comes on as well...

    Diff Lock Bypass Issue

HI, I have a 96 Limited, with the push button 4WD on the transfer case lever. When the blue w/ red stripe wire going to the 4wd computer behind the driver's side kick panel is tied to ground, the front axle engages into 4wd. I can hear it. This mod is supposed to only make it possible to use...

    Grey Wire Mod For 4Runners

I have made this change on my 96 Limited and as soon as the Blue/red is tied to ground, you can hear the FRONT AXLE engage, whether the 4wd button is set to 2wd or not. I assume that the locker would also engage, but it does not matter since you can't drive around in 4wd. Did your vehicle...

    '96 Limited - intermittent/random idle problem

Resolved - It was the ECT sensor - though it tested fine, it followed the resistance curve nicely, and the ECM and harness were also good, I had to wait until it was acting up and then stop and check the resistance of the sensor to catch it in a failure state. Thanks for the input!

    '96 Limited - intermittent/random idle problem

Thanks for the link - It seems the issue could be the ECT (engine coolant temp sensor) as it is showing the temp @ -40deg. The FSM says that reading indicates an open circuit - I am going to test the wiring harness and ECM which should narrow it to the ETC sensor. Fortunately the...

    '96 Limited - intermittent/random idle problem

Fault Code: I read the code, erased it and then drove it until it faulted again. Both results are below: P0115 - Engine Coolant Temp Circuit Catalyst and EVAP monitors had not run Note that I am in Canada, so the temp readings are in degrees celsius, not Fahrenheit - I can change the units...
