Everyone was right Just stopping in with an update for future yota peeps with same issue. This turned out to be fried rings. Had the 162k mile engine replaced with a 100k engine and eveything has been perfect since then. Hope these posts help someone else.

Hey elcidsurfer, just wanted to check in and let you know that (just as everyone is saying) replacing the U joints fixed my issue. The rear joints next to the differiential. Good luck to ya. Now, if I can just find someone with a low mileage used engine... I'll be set =P
