Now I do everything myself as Cayrunner probably does, but have you considered taking it into a shop, just to see if their (presumably) pro equipment can read it? Might be cheaper than throwing parts or different tools at it. You would then have a better idea if it's the truck and a problem...

ebay? Not that it helps you much, but coming from the BMW world it seems like 4runner trim parts are awfully expensive.

I'm not sure how, I don't know these trucks that well, but would seem to be the problem. Yes I know, there's lots of trucks with aftermarket parts and lift kits, so to many of which do just fine, but between a lift and aftermarket control arms, to me it just screams to be the problem.

From what I can see I might phrase it as compromised, but not unsafe. The dealer may be erring on the side of caution, or they may see more than I can. As long as the whole thing, or at least a good part of it isn't all crusty, take it to a couple of places and see if they can do an overlay...

I have tested the fan clutch with the newspaper method, and at operating temp I couldn't slow it down a bit, plus the temp gauge never budged, so I don't think it's the fan clutch. So Toyota Landcruisers didn't come with one, but Lexus Landcruisers did? Is it a bolt up? How is it switched...

Oh good, I'm glad its not just me. Perhaps, but I like to see good design. Why bother with a gas door at all? A basic locking gas cap would surely be cheaper and simpler.

The door does pop open, it sounds like it's working as designed, I'm just dumbfounded by it's design.
