What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Rear door Unbolted the rear door latch and then dissolved rust/displaced crud with wd40 and got the internal lever thing moving again and also springing back by working it with vice grips for a while. Now the rear handle opens the hatch again. For good measure i got the key cylinder on the...

Programming Instructions for keyless entry remote?

Again, late with this but the écu could be ‘full’ of fobs. Clear it then enter the new fob. It clears with the same pencil pushed button on the side of the box under the seat. Key on Hold ecu button 5 sec, let go Hold ecu button again for 2 sec, let go. Turn off key. Now the alarm ecu is...

Programming Instructions for keyless entry remote?

10 years late but it’s the fob. 96-97= black fob 98= gray fob They transmit differently and are not interchangeable.

97 limited passive arming alarm woes

Our 97 limited has the rs3000 alarm with black fobs. It’s stuck in ‘passive arm mode’. I can follow the steps everyone knows: Key on Long press both buttons Two press of top button (double chirp) Turn key to lock (triple chirp) But it stays in passive mode. I’m wondering if that is the...

Misfire and rough idle after cleaning throttle body...

This is an old thread but I’ve seen lots of this exact same issue after the throttle body comes off and it has been because the air assist hose was not reconnected. It must be an easy thing to miss. It can be other things, of course, but low idle and random misfire codes and hard starting...

What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Window went crinkly crack Didn't drive Monday and that night it fell to -48.5C. Walked past the truck at about 6pm and it was fine. In the am I walked past it and the driver's door window was completely shattered but still in place. Completely spider webbed. No tracks in the snow, 1/2 mile from...

04 heater fail, temp gauge stays put - Please look-

Yah, if it was a toyota cargo van I'd check low coolant, wire being off the heat valve or a bad spider (the dash control mechanics) or a stuck open T-stat. Not sure where I would start on a 4th gen 4Runner.

Spark plug blew out - helicoil?

Yes. Done many. The above advice on the grease and cleaning is key. Clean up and use the correct high temp thread locker.

    Wacky Instrument Cluster Issue

I’d be drinking heavily by now thinking bad sensor, bad connection (jittery wire contact), wire broken inside sheath etc. Momentary signal loss or gigo would not be unreasonable here. You’re a better man than I am, Gunga Din ....

    Wacky Instrument Cluster Issue

I got nothing - except the old toyota 4wd vans (before Previa) used to have instrument clusters go weird and 'christmas tree' when the alternator began packing it in and mid-80s 911s lost their clusters when main voltage tanked. And that's all I know about clusters. So... Grounding? At the...

5vzfe hot at idle only, oddities

Seen that exactly with low coolant. Had a closed tstat but didn't cause engine temp to spike much. Did stop heaters from putting out heat. Bad fan clutch a little different. Drove once 600 miles in low gear due to a bad fan clutch. High rpm and a good rad kept temps down until I could get to a...
