awful grinding noise shifting from 2hi to 4hi

Happened to me a several times. - Fresh fluid in a new car (<10k miles) and even after I went to synthetic (>30 and <50k). - Moving (~5mph) or standing still (drive or neutral). - Uphill or downhill. I just let it roll a little and try again. Thought it was "normal" because the gears...

Ah the Joy. My tranny is only using 3 gears.

I've heard that but never understood... why?

    Spacer size?

Here's my "test" with my V8 2008 w/ X-REAS and Rear Air: Normal/rest on the right side: F 33" R 35.5" Now if I sit on the rear bumper, about 15s later the air compressor kicks in and the rear rises: F 33" R 35.75" (give or take 1/8"). Wait a little bit longer and we're back to normal. Okay...

    Spacer size?

I think I'll try jacking up the car this weekend at the front and see what the rear does.

Speedometer not working all of a sudden

Does your odometer work? Might be a good way to keep your 4runner low mileage forever. :)

    Spacer size?

Question as to how the auto levelling / rear air suspension works IF you raise the front 3" (just go with me) will the rear auto compensate due to the system noticing the rear is lower than the front? Will you always be 100% level at the worst and/or have a minor amount of rake VERSUS having a...

    Lifting with rear air suspension

Thanks Para, was hoping :) However, the concept looks pretty simple - it's just a spacer on the bottom of the air bag. I'm wondering a) how hard would it be to fabricate something to fit and b) how to mount it?

    Lifting with rear air suspension

The general consensus is there is little you can to do lift the rear of 4Runners with rear air suspension / auto levelling rears. But was following some links and bumped into this...

    NEW TIRE: Michelin LTX M/S-2

But then what is the alternative? A standardized test measures "something" in some situation. The snowflake gives us at least an inkling that the tire performs well in that situation (compared to non-snowflake tires). Infinite conditions exist: Powder, wet pack snow, snow over ice, snow...

    NEW TIRE: Michelin LTX M/S-2

There are some serious debates on that snowflake symbol in this forum :) "You will find the M+S symbol on most all-season tyres, on off-road and all-terrain tyres and even some high performance summer tyres may have this designation. However, there are no performance standards to meet or...

    NEW TIRE: Michelin LTX M/S-2

Looking for a replacement for the Michelin Cross Terrains and asked for a comparison from Michelin: "The new Michelin LTX M/S2 offers over 15% better snow traction over the competition, including better snow traction over the Michelin Cross-Terrain. However, the Michelin LTX M/S2 is not RMA...

Looking for an auto shop... (or suck it up and do it yourself?)

So I've had a set of FJ springs & spacers in my garage for about a year. There never seems to be enough time to put them in. I mean, I'd rather go out and drive, off road, shoot, hike, bike, yada yada yada. But the "scrape" on the skid plate and slowing dooooowwwwwnnnnn when hitting some...

    HID's in Fogs......Good idea?

For the last couple of years, I've had HID's in my 2008 4Runner. Everynight, I run them, both in CA and NV. I can count, on a single hand, the number of times I've been "flashed", and it's 4. Funny though, it was twice in the last month too but it may have been me coming down a hill compared...

    Bull Bars for $119!!!

The ONLY thing I would have done different would have been to attack the mount point with sand paper in order to get a good ground point. The frame mounts to an L bracket. The L bracket screws into bar itself. Where the bolt touches the L bracket, it's painted. If you sand the L bracket a...
