    Guess what I did

any good aftermarket rotors? Don't want to skimp on the caliper so I will get a reman from Toyota, but not keen on paying 100 each for rotors on a rustbucket that probably has about 5 years left to live.

    Guess what I did

Well the exciting results are in, and we're all sort of wrong!! It does appear that the inner pistons overextended and probably caused the leak. I haven't taken it apart yet to confirm but...what caused the overextension was not pad wear, what caused it was the inner half of the rotor...

    Guess what I did

The suspense is killing me. I should be reunited with my 4runner for the first time in 6 months within a couple weeks, then I will get to the bottom of this thriller (In the meantime I bought an 04 Xterra, which is OK but no substitute for a 97 4runner. But they will reside in different...

    What’s killing your 3rd Gen?

My rockers are half gone. I've been using fluid film the last couple years in hopes of staving off terminal rot.

    Guess what I did

They are original. I'd be just as concerned with rust given the progression of that cancer too. Will have to evaluate all this in the fall when I get back.

    Guess what I did

That's my guess too. I didn't know if it was possible but I may have found a way lol.

    Guess what I did

No really, you have to guess because I don't know. The winner will win a "you guessed right" award when I visually determine what I did, which may be 6 months from now because I'm going out of state. The facts: I drove my 4runner long after my brakes started grinding badly. Since I planned to...

would it be a terrible idea

And it was. But I got the new front tires Saturday, and it handled great tonight in snow. It was also fun watching the millennial at the shop try to drive my 5 speed into the bay. He made it nearly an inch lol. :clap2:

    Ethanol or Non-Ethanol?

Never put anything but the cheapest 87 octane (and sometimes lower) in my 2 1997 toyotas, never any additives (except in small engines) we're at 650,000 miles combined. So yeah I'm not worried. :sleepy:

would it be a terrible idea

When you have low cash flow and big bills, how much it costs now is more important than how much it costs in the long run. Paying off my property taxes by December 30 is more important than having 4 matching tires at the moment, but having 4WD right away is very important on our snowy roads...

would it be a terrible idea

That was my original plan but they shot up in price. I hope to get 2 more HT's in a month or so for a matching set. if I ever become a fire lookout again I will get 2 more AT's but I don't really need AT's for my everyday driving.

would it be a terrible idea

One of them is nearly bald, much shorter than the nearly new AT's. Don't feel like risking damage.

would it be a terrible idea

Considering I can't even put it in 4wd with the front tires I have now, and we just got a bunch of snow, I ordered 2 HT. Unfortunately they won't get here for a week. Hopefully I will come up with the jack to replace the rears with HT shortly too.

would it be a terrible idea

If I put all season highway tires on the front with my a/t tires on the back for the winter, if they are the same diameter tires? Yes they are different tread of course but they are the same size around so it theoretically shouldn't cause drive train problems. The A/T's are almost new. I can't...

    Good luck timmy

I am staunchly and proudly anti-growth. I don't know how anyone who, like me, wants to escape rat races, and has seen what growth has done to so many formerly "nice" un-rat racey places, can't be. But this is not the place, good luck in Bend.
