Have seen someone recommend the PELA brand of vacuum oil changers on a Miata forum in the past. Never tried it myself but this fellow swore by it as a way to lighten the work and minimize the mess.

Disclaimer: I do not own a 4Runner yet, but Have replaced a cloth seat cover on a Miata that had Hog Rings and used zip ties in place of the Hog Rings and it worked great.
