Blacking Out the Runner's Chrome

Black door handle covers. I plastic dipped some of the exposed chrome before applying the handle cover :-)

Looks awesome! where did you get the covers from? I like this idea instead of tearing off the door panel and replacing the handles. If you could post a link that would be great, thank you!

Man that looks so much better with all of the chrome delete. did you plasti dip? what about the handles?
I am going to start my chrome delete plasti dip process this weekend on my 2013 SR5

I just went ahead an spray painted everything. I was going to plasti-dip, but the coverage is better with paint. I used covers from amazon on the handles. The link is for covers with smart key holes, but they have some without.

ASUMTNEER thank you! did you paint everything on the vehicle? I am planning on taking my time and doing a super OCD tape job and painting on my truck so prevent me from ruining any glue or breaking anything lol.
I am ordering those covers today.

I took everything off to paint. The bumpers come off pretty easily as do the side skirts and roof rack. I also replaced the headlights and taillights, so the thing looked like a disaster sitting in the garage, but it is probably easier to go that route if you're wanting to be thorough.

Has anyone tried liquid mask on painted surfaces? This is used for RC car bodies and other crafts. You still mask off the large areas with tape and paper. Then coat the detailed areas with liquid mask and pull out the parts you want painted?

Right on man that is definitely the better way to do it. more the back hatch is the PITA from what I have read. The bumers look pretty easy to remove for sure so that you can get those chrome strips off.
When I tackle this next weekend I will post pics with doing the tricky stuff on the truck and we will see how my work ends up with plasti dip.

The piece on the hatch is by far the worst. Removal isn't terrible, but getting the letters and adhesive off and lined back up right is tough. Good luck and can't wait to see the SRP blacked out.

Thanks for the tips. Should have mine done in a week or two when I get time. Then bumper trimming (slightly to give more aggressive of a stance). Dobinsons and wheels and tires in a few months.
But I’ll post up my black out when it’s done.

No more chrome!
2013 SR5. Lots of prep work, plasti dip (minus door handles) and it turned out great.
I still need to trim my rockers so they don’t hang so low or just buy/find some rocker panel covers.

Yeah my supplies came in and I just got a little excited to get rid of the chrome. I am pretty sold now on trimming my rockers. ANTMAN from a different thread laid it out and made it look pretty simple. Itll save about $500+ on 2014 rockers lol.

Trimmed up my rocker panels as well. This was intimidating to make the first cut but it went smooth and turned out great!
