    2024 Ltd JBL HU Failure

A few weeks ago i started up my 4Runner (2024 Ltd 4wd) and got a blank screen on the HU. When I put the truck in reverse, the screen lit up with the usual rear and overhead views. The display worked fine. Otherwise the HU failed to boot up. No Toyota splash screen. In the darkness of my garage...

    Stripped Oil Pan Plug

This is why I skipped the two free oil changes at the dealer when I bought my 2024. Too many horror stories about professional mechanics using power tools.

    Battery Replacement

While my dealer sells Toyota branded batteries, I checked my 2024 and found it is a Panasonic battery.

    Battery Replacement

I recently bought a battery at the dealer for my sister's Avalon. (She insists on dealer parts and service.) To my surprise the Toyota brand battery cost the same as other brands at the car parts places.

    Five Chirps

It may be the cross traffic warning chime. Next time I'm in a busy parking lot, I'll sit in reverse to see what happens when another car goes by.

    Five Chirps

2024 Limited. I'm at a loss why I randomly hear 5 short beeps that occur seemingly randomly while I'm driving. It's not the same as the 3 beeps I get when I cross a line without a blinker. It's lower pitched and slower than the beeps I get when the front bumper gets close to a stationary object...

    USB Ports?

My '25 Limited has the following. (I didn't opt for the additional 2 usb ports in the dash.) Front: 1ea USB-A, 2ea 12V cig (dash and under armrest) Mid: 2ea USB-C Rear: 1ea 120V, 1ea 12V cig If I use the front USB-A for Carplay, that leaves no stock usb's. I have a 4-way splitter for the 12V...

Limited, Full-Time 4WD vs AWD Differences

I looked all over to find the torque split on the Limited 4wd, without success. Thanks for including that!

    Break-in Gas Mileage

I did my homework. Sticker lists highway at 19, and under ideal conditions that's what I expect. I figured it only got 19 due to full-time 4WD. Also homework-wise, I bought the Limited for the lockable torsen center diff. It's useful when on dry pavement with icy patches when I visit NC in the...

    Break-in Gas Mileage

Truck was in 5th gear the whole time, except a few minutes going over the Dames Point Bridge. I95 is flat and straight.

    Break-in Gas Mileage

I've been tracking my fuel mileage every tank for the last 50 years, starting when there was gas rationing in the 70s. I've driven this same route many dozens of times in my 99 4Runner, and almost always got ~20mpg both ways. _Strong_ headwinds, and stop and go traffic would drop it below 19...

    Break-in Gas Mileage

Thanks for that input. When I say like a switch, 450 miles of 18mpg, then in short order, 500 miles of 20mpg. If that is due to rings bedding in, when they didn't do it for 3000 miles, so be it. Conditions in both cases were as close as can be expected ever in the real world.

    Break-in Gas Mileage

My theory is the engineers run the engine slightly rich during break-in to lower combustion chamber temperatures. That would provide some relief to the new rings during break-in when friction is higher.

    Break-in Gas Mileage

The dashboard readout isn't based on the tank, it's based on the fuel injection time. There is no inaccuracy in the dash readout due to gas station fuel nozzle shutoff variability. That variability won'teffect trip meter calculations either. Both numbers have been in close agreement. 18mpg...

    Break-in Gas Mileage

No appreciable wind or elevation change either way. There's no way the rings after 3K miles suddenly bedded in. The mileage change occurred over a very short distance. A step-wise change vs gradual doesn't fit with a mechanical break-in.
