Leaky head gasket at cylinder 5. Is this common?

Definitely a Toyota metal gasket. But I didi have a radiator failuse on the highway and I thought we ahd caught it. But that may have warpd the head slightly, and it just got worse over time.

Leaky head gasket at cylinder 5. Is this common?

It's a 1997. I bought it in 2005 at 100,000. I had a cracked head at 250,000, and only got 30,000 out of this one. Same spot - passenger side rear (cylinder 5).

Leaky head gasket at cylinder 5. Is this common?

The gasket failed at cylinder 5 and I think it got hot. Is this a known issue and, if so, are there any fixes to keep the coolant circulating well back there? I will have it pulled soon. Should I clean the cooling channels? Thx!

Has anyone tried installing a 6-speed RC Toyota transmission to get a lower 1st gear?

Thanks. Do you mind if I ask how much that ran you, including installation?

Has anyone tried installing a 6-speed RC Toyota transmission to get a lower 1st gear?

Doing some crawly-type off road driving has convinced me that the low range on my 1997 5-speed is not low enough. My buddy has a later Tacoma with the 6-speed manual and it has a really low first gear. Has anyone tried fitting one on a gen 3? The alternative of a crawler split gearbox is...

Weathertechs with a clutch pedal - experiences?

I have a 1997 with a manual shift. Sometimes the floor mat slides under the clutch pedal and it is hard to start (the clutch start button is not sufficiently depressed). So I yank it back up and away we go. But I have worn a hole in the driver's mat and was thinking about Weathertechs. However...

Vacuum line kit - any recommendations?

Do you have a good source for oil/fuel-resistant hoses, by chance?

Vacuum line kit - any recommendations?

And 13 - that looks pretty curvy.

Vacuum line kit - any recommendations?

And so those hold up to the gas vapor well? Vacuum is just air, but the evap does have fuel vapor in it.

Vacuum line kit - any recommendations?

I feel like it definitely makes sense to buy the tightly curved lines from Toyota. The evap system has a few s-shaped hoses.

Vacuum line kit - any recommendations?

Thanks, I thought that might be the case. Any recommendations on sources for the silocone lines? Or are they all pretty much the same? That kit from Yotashop is pretty spendy, and I dont think it has every hose - at least not as pictured.

Vacuum line kit - any recommendations?

I'm starting to get some P0441 codes on my 1996 and my lines are completely fossilized. I figure I need to replace basically every vacuum and evap line and thought that folks around here might have recommendations for a kit. True, I could open the hood in the Autozone parking lot and pull them...

Ah - OK, that's what I need to know. Big thumbs up to the sway bar removal, also. Thanks!!!

    starters - 1.4 vs. 1.8 kw

I have a 1997 4WD 3.4 SR5 manual. The starter motor just gave up the ghost, after 270K miles. The local Toyota dealer has a starter, but it is the 1.8kw version, which was apparently for colder-climate vehicles. Is there any disadvantage to this? The parts guy at Toyota said it would fit, but...

power mirrors - can you get in there and replace the gears?

Those power mirrors! My gears have clearly stripped. I found a replacement at a junkyard, but the mirror is the wrong color. I figure I can just swap out the gears, but I can't see how to open it up without breaking in on the mirror side. Is there a way to do that without destroying the mirror...
